KX155 & KI203 14V 760CH $1200 - SOLD
JKSmith replied to Schinderhannes's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
How much for the sl60? Highly interested. 270-772-2223 -
I got my baby back yesterday y'all. After a lot of time and money spend she's back In the air. Fresh overhaul by Zephyr engines, and a lot of oddball airframe work has really made a extreme difference to my Mooney! I'm happy to be back in action! Now it's time for the break in period, I've been going by zephyrs recommendations and hopefully will be finished breaking it in here in a week or so

Yes, flushed the prop and oil cooler along with any associated lines. We're replacing the engine mount bolts and the lord engine pads. Figured while it was off to go ahead and do it. I installed those nice blue o-rings. Windows are sealed good, even tho it was a Florida plane till the early 90's i credit her decent health to being well covered and hangerd. All hoses will be replaced as the boss recommended it. The fire shield sounds like a good idea I may take your knowledge and apply that. May help with some temps as well. I've heard a lot of good with Zephyr and L.J. Has been a good friend with my engine. He's he boss and knows what's best according to my engine and his advice will be well followed. It's to expensive not to listen to him lol

Modern Mooney yokes are big $$ and like stated above get rid of the AD and is a pretty simple log entry. I like the feel and will probably bite the bullet one day on them. Someone correct me if I have read you have to replace the rods the yokes mount on because the drilled holes are drilled opposite the way the old ones are drilled??

They could have been re sealed, and looking back I would have re sealed them for the savings. But I went with new so that it would be a quick, and "new" part replacement. I also done it myself. Overhauls especially unexpected sure do break your heart. I seriously lost some sleep and worried a lot. So don't stress over the small stuff, from what I've seen on Facebook your bird is in good hands

I'd buy the 55gal drum then sell gallon jugs of it to my hanger neighbors for some profit. It may pay for the fluid you use. Just a thought.

Alex's M20D (continuous thread)
JKSmith replied to Raptor05121's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I go in and out of grass all the time. A runway I personally know, and compete some during the STOL competitions. Good shock discs, stable approaches, and staying light is key. If ya want a short takeoff load the baggage compartment down and keep the nose light (also helps with any grass operations) -

That's a awesome grass strip!! -
I see how it is, ya don't trust facebook! Haha JK

Thankyou! It has been a stressful experince, at the end of it all I will have a new better established confidence in my ole girl. We had just removed the panels and was in the process of storing them but very happy they haven't found anything corrosion wise because what they have found which was small crap has been taken care of

I have a neighbor that has special flying gloves, don't know why tho he just flys a c-150. May be a good idea, get ya a single Michael Jackson glove yee hee hee!
-
Yes sir, that is something that I have seen and assisted with removing. Im ready to have my girl back, it feels good to have all this stuff fixed and a engine that my IA can't gripe about for a while.

I hope everyone has had a great flying season! I hate that my crazy schedule has hindered my communications with everyone Facebook has been my go to for a while (Facebook mooney club). Ive put 107 hours on my bird since last annual and this annual has been crazy. So far we've rebuilt the Main gear, and replace the nose gear truss and steering links along with all new shock discs. New brake calipers, and oh may I mention a engine over haul by Zephyr (I really like those guys). My mechanics jokingly call there selves rotorcraft mechanics since they find every little thing but now the one thing that worries me is the SB-m20-208b corrosion inspection! Surely something would have been found by now I mean darn! They strip the plane apart and have never mentioned anything out of the ordinary corrosion wise and I've had the fuselage corrosion-X'd and looked at and once again nothing. I may be crazy, but after this annual I am just waiting for some more bad news!! What do y'all think? Btw I love my A&P/IA they are way to thorough and would never doubt there skills. They want there money and don't mind digging for it lol

I assume it will be available in a WASS form? If not I'll need a WASS transponder
-
Thank you for the responses. Sorry I'm late getting back with y'all. You guys are making me rethink the 530. It sounds like a good idea to install it, but thinking about the costs I could incur with possible maintenance and the cost of converting it to WASS and making it work with my aircraft. I could sell it for 5k and put the 3k conversion towards the cost. That's 8k towards maybe the gtn650. It's really a lot of money to drop into a hobby thing. Better than doing drugs I guess! Disclaimer- I love my hobby, my airplane, and myself. I just want something that I won't be fussing about in the future.

My father in law is doing a panel upgrade in the fall and he's offered me his 530 to install in my bird. It is a 24v non WASS 530, and I will have to let the shop install the WASS kit which will also allow it to work with a 12v system $3,000 I think. every shop I talk to doesn't seem to enthusiastic with my decision to install the 530. They claim that Garmin is running out of parts and that I could be looking at problems in the next 5-10 years. My question is, am I wasting time with the install of the 530, and can I look forward to it being a reliable system that will last me a while? Also if you have any pics of your panel with a 530-300xl-and a 345 transponder that would be nice too. That's what I'm planning on having in my bird

There's a few places to go to from trigger gap. A place called Gastons and some other place as well 3M0 is the identifier I believe. http://www.gastons.com/

Minimal is the key word. I should have said significantly less. Im not sure how a mechanic can say your compressions are excellent but you may need a new engine in the same sentence. Especially on a 300smoh engine. I believe Sitting hurt it but not that much -
Here's the info on trigger gap. http://theraf.org/content/trigger-gap-safety-briefing thanks for the encouragement! I've seen videos of mooneys going out of grass I've just never done it in mine. I'll get some practice in and hopefully make the trip!

Hello and welcome aboard! I may not know to much but this is my two cents. I purchased my F last may, it was still current but I had a reputable A&P that I greatly trusted (and liked Mooney aircraft) perform my pre buy. I'm not to sure what he looked at during the pre buy but he said it was a solid plane. My annual was performed in october and it stayed a month, 4K later I got it back and he told me that I may need a new engine next annual "if" there's another large amount of metal flakes in the oil sample. My lesson learned, take it to someone that is on your side. Take it to a certified Mooney shop, spend the extra up front, and if you have the luxury of taking it to don maxwell I'd go ahead and schedule the appointment. Pre buys make a good bartering tool. Unfortunately in my case I was having to barter with my father in law. Just some background on my Mooney if anyone is concerned about the engine. It sat for 5 years and I'm almost positive that the large amount of metal shavings was due to the fact that it sat so long, I have since changed oil and the metal shavings are minimal. -
How do you like the EZ Heat vs the Tanis. Does it heat all the way up to the cylinders as well or just the oil?
-
I haven't heard a lot about trigger gap. I'm trying to cover two bases at once. Info if any on the location and general ideas. I've seen mixed emotions about it. May get some people interested in going to the location as well.
-
I have a group of friends heading to trigger gap in April. It's a grass strip with camping and what not. Anyways. I wanted to see if any of y'all have been there or have even operated there mooney on grass. I never have but I assume grass is no harder than pavement. It's the holes that are the problem. Pointers and tips appreciated. Thank you!

Want to replace my old rotating beacon with led strobe
JKSmith replied to deltchief's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The last time I looked into it flashing position lights aren't approved for certified aircraft only experimental. The white lights can strobe but the colored lights cannot. I'm assuming that's what your meaning when you use the term position light. On a side note, the LED options are far superior than the old beacon, you'll have longer life and less power draw. The whelen was $380 at KOSH on Saturday.
