  1. There is a STC to install a johnson bar on an M20 R ?
  2. At each intervention on the reference instruments (TC for brittain or similar, AI, DG for king or similar) it is sometimes necessary to review the gain and offset settings of the autopilot controller, in particular for deviations of less than 5 ° of heading, where the turn setpoint is at reduced rate (1/2) and not at normal rate (1). Failing that, the plane does what you describe, that is to say too important heading excursions.
  3. I am very happy to live in a country where we speak in millimeters...
  4. 20 hours is not much for this job on a 60-year-old machine. Negotiate your bill (you have cleaned his fingerprints...) and don't come back to his house. And don't make an IFR flight with an aircraft coming out of maintenance, test it on 5 or 10 hours of visual flight before.
  5. For my F, necessary also to replace the springs of the latch.
  6. I would like to find the original seats of a 67 F with the brown fabric / leather, to be able to redo the identical. This is the only thing that is not original on my machine.
  7. I don't no, but it's the limit for the structure (gear, wing, flex hose break, rod of doors, doors,... ?) Step retract extend as no limit on the POH...
  8. On 67F, the limit speed of gear extension is 120 Mph (105 Kts), it's also the maximum speed of flight with gear down (VLE).
  9. When the IO 360 A1A engine used the PNr 73111 valve (1/2 inch outer diameter rod, sodium forged nimonic), Superior created an alternative part which is SL 12720, same technology. Does anyone of you have any experience with this model of exhaust valve, now replaced by 16740 ?
  10. The question is: What is the best way to finance the purchase? Also, you wish to buy (not rent)... If you are an individual buyer, it's self-financing (no interest). If you are a company or a legal entity with an accounting management of its activity, it is the bank loan with the interests deductible in financial expenses (the loan costs nothing). But there will be a second question once the purchase is made: How to finance the operating costs? And here, we have to be honest, no one has the perfect answer.
  11. Nevertheless, sometimes, for the 67 F, I want to build a connecting shaft between the left and right wheels of the front seats!
  12. A few years ago, while turning in the City airfield circuit of LILLE (LFQQ), in the north of France, a small regional airport, an epic arrival which is about the following : A guy announces on the radio : "Lille tour hello, from "xxxx", CAM VFR currently north of Paris (200 Kms), for a long finale and a complete ?" ; At the tower the lady answers : "xxxx" hello, from Lille tour, you are still far away, I will ask you for 5 minutes of waiting there is an announced commercial arrival and people in the circuit" ; -"Lille tour, at your place in 8 minutes, I don't have 5 minutes of fuel to lose !"... -"Euuuh... xxxx from Lille tour, I'll call you back !"... Less than a minute later... -"xxxx, from Lille tour, track 08 in service, integrate for final and recall visual installations, xpdr 61xx"... -"Lille tour, xpdr will be 2000, final 08 in 6 minutes"... So except if you have a retrovisor on the canopy, do not take care of those who are behind you.
  13. I have a question... How do you read my mind when you're so far away from me? In the 60s / 70s, the car owner's manual described the procedure for adjusting the valve clearance... As it was a complicated operation for a normal driver, just by reading the lines, the owner of the vehicle took his car to the garage and paid the bill without batting an eye, telling himself that the guy with all black hands had saved him the day and saved time. In light of this time spent, I would say that the Mooney pilot's manual does not address maintenance issues enough and that the maintenance manual says too many things... I completely disassembled and reassembled mine, I know every bolt, every rivet, besides we are tutoring each other now... Well, I say that this is a very good mechanic's plane and that it encourages you to stay friends with him for good and loyal services.
  14. For me, I found that replacing the bolt did not solve the problem of the clearance. I think that the SB secures the reliability of the steering control because it is very stressed in shear during the shimmy. On the question of the excessive clearance, it is rather on the side of the ball joint mounted in the folded and welded sheet metal "U" that we must look at. The new part provided by Lasar does not concern, for example, the case of a 67 F (different axis offset). In my case, the issue of the wheel shimmy was settled with the wedge under the donuts and the reconditioning of the fork linear damper. Also the replacement of the ball joint mentioned just before. And of course, I changed the bolt to comply with the SB, but the clearance at the place of the bolt is the same as with the old one.
  15. For me it's a good time, the SB 388 from Lycoming is breaking my feet, so I'm going to change the valve guides.
  16. EASA today authorizes maintenance by the pilot-owner. In France, it is easier if the aircraft is classified as "CDN-R" (basically, collector's aircraft), which is not yet the case with the M20. For all M20s from before 1974, therefore ICAO CDN level, it is either the manufacturer's maintenance program, or a maintenance program filed by the pilot-owner which refers. The pilot can do the job if he has a mechanic's license. In any case, he is able to sign the A. P. R. S (Re-commissioning Approval), even if he is not the one who carried out the work.
  17. The water barrel supports the forces in both directions.
  18. On the balance table... superior to the engine weight.
  19. Initially, I proposed to my wife to climb on the fix part of elevator, same the photo of the M20F catalog... The idea of the baril of metal hanging on the tie down came after, when she had too many ants in her legs to wait, sitting up there and leaning against the vertical plane. If the ring is a problem, put the lests on the horizontal fixed plane... Since it is its function to lift the front wheel...
  20. A 17 Gallons metal barrel with 10 Gallons of water and that's enough.
  21. Perhaps the "ideal" position would be that of the Marker beacon antenna, located at the base under the rear seat. The ADF sloop was further aft, to the right of the tail cone in line with the flaps. The routing of the marker beacon cables was: Under the rear seat, to the left, along the left wing root (following the structural tube), then up to the pilot dashboard. The path of the ADF sloop antenna cable was to the right, along the structural tubes, passing under the door sill.
