  1. haha! i second that!
  2. the geronimo is an apache with 180 horse conversion, the longer nose, swept windshield, chopped tail and the different cowlings and a couple other things. but yea pretty much a skinny aztec. i personally dont care for any of those pipers but they did a good job on this one.
  3. Holy s$&t I'd be over gross for sure!
  4. Yup.... That's hot!
  5. Dumplin'
  6. This is the only picture I could find of one of my jets. It was at a jet meet in Lubbock Texas when I was in 10th grade.
  7. How about retractable gear? Is that an option with the kit?
  8. There really isn't anything like the whole experience of flying an r/c turbine. The sounds and smells are awesome! And when your at a jet meet and they set up a speed trap over the run way and you do a low pass pushing every bit of 250 mph! Jim it sounds like you and I got started in the same exact way. My glider with the powered pod was a wonderer. I also had a glider called a ninja that I would slope soar with that seemed to be just as fast as my jet. It's amazing how fast a slope soarer can go. Look up worlds fastest r/c plane on YouTube. I think they clocked it at upwards of 400 mph.. Amazing Totally agree on the battery powered stuff... It's all you see at the fields these days... It crazy that the cost of fuel has even effected the r/c world... Check out www.precisionaerobatics.com they have some sweet airplanes and all kinds of videos to watch. If anyone ever has the itch to buy a turbine let me know. The guy the owns JetCat USA is a very good friend of mine and was my mentor when I was flying r/c jets. I just flew up to Paso Robles to see him the beginning of January. The JetCat service center is right by KPRB. As for the memories... No problem, but really thank RocketAviator. He got my gears turning upstairs! Ha
  9. Awesome! I knew I'd strike a nerve! Haha, I started flying u-control and then had a glider with a .049 power pod and then moved on to r/c. I still have all my stuff and even a couple airplanes. But since I got my ppl it's been on the back burner. I even flew jets for a while. I had a bvm bandit and a bobcat. Flying r/c turbines is amazing!
  10. I think we need a new topic/forum dedicated to Remote control airplanes... i know there are mooney space members that fly R/C
  11. NIce! i need to wipe the dust off my .50 size giles 202 this spring! it hasn't seen the sky in two years. make sure you take pictures when its complete
  12. I second Jeff at High Desert. I've know that guy for a couple years and never seen bad work from him.
  13. I agree about the paint scheme. It hard to make something that modern look right on an old airframe but they pulled it off. The had scheme designer do the design. I can't recall the name of the company but they are web based. Clearly they know their stuff. It's crazy to see what this panel went from to what it is. It had gauges everywhere. No it is so simple but yet state or the art. Fully coupled autopilot, ads-b, the whole 9 yards.
  14. So 3.5 years in the making... A good friend of mine and his dad restored this 1959 Piper Apache with a full Geronimo conversion. My buddies dad is one of the best IA's that I know. He did the maintenance on my grandfathers turbo Saratoga and Comanche 250 and he will be doing the maintenance on my M20E. This guy spares no expense to detail on his customers airplanes as well as his own. I know this because I worked for him for a year and helped them with some of the restoration... It's cool to be apart of something like this. So after two fresh engine's and props. A complete overhaul of the interior, which mind you is done after Bentley interior and I'm so upset that I don't have pictures of it because it's awesome, but I did get the panel! And a very pricey paint job, they have a beautiful airplane. If Any of you guys are local to SoCal I highly recommend them for ANYTHING. Annual... Pre-buy.... Major overhaul... Whatever your little heart desires they can do it and do it very well. They are based at KWJF and thier shop is MH aviation. Enjoy
  15. This sounds like a blast. As the date gets closer i will see what my schedule is like and let you know if i can make it.
  16. Here is what i did. Keep in mind I am 27 years old ( insurance purposes ) I got my ppl at 43 hours. And I bought my mooney with 85 hours total time with no insturment rating. So I rented for a while after I took my check ride. My insurance covered me after 10hrs of dual in type @ $1100 for the year in the 66 m20e that we bought. Now granted you are looking at a J model... Newer.. a little faster so the insurance requirement as well as price may go up. But also I wasn't in a position to buy when I got my license which is the only reason I didn't. So I would say after you take the check ride if you can afford it, buy it, and get the dual for insurance but RESPECT THE AIRPLANE! Learn everything about it. How to care for it, fly it, ect... You won't regret it! Good luck with your training and I hope my experience buying mine helps.
  17. ^^ photo would help for sure. If I had to guess it's probably the o-ring on the cylinder inside the break caliper. Easy fix.
  18. Pilot joke=awesome!! The book calls for 4-5 hours of battery life in GPS mode. And if I remember correctly it said 3-4 weeks battery life with gps disabled. I'll have to look at it again.
  19. My girlfriend got me one for Christmas! It's awesome!!! So many features and a great back up!
  20. Welcome!!! You're going to love your mooney! You and I are on the same track. All I had was 172 time when I bought mine last September. Going to be working on my ifr ticket real soon. Looks like you got yourself a very nice airplane. Congratulations and wish you many happy hours of flying! Mike
  21. Planning on chino. I would definitely display my E if the spots haven't been filled Mike
  22. That is so ironic that I ran across this this post. I first learned about new berry springs and all the private lakes and ski lakes out there in October of 2012 when the company I work for started paving Hwy 40 from the desert oasis I rest stop to ludlow. Interesting place. My dad and I work for the same company and him and I stayed in his motor home at the RV park off fort cady rd.
  23. Awesome Matt! I know how excited you are and it only gets better with hours!!! Happy flying
  24. Agree'd! All they do is spend spend spend and they want us to do the same.... I can't wait for the next election!
