  1. Yea, that’s what I meant, 530 goes down. I’m probably going to do some updating of GPS in the near future, not sure what.
  2. Second indicator is still been contemplated. Redundancy, if GPS is lost, how would I get down in weather?
  3. Not necessary, but the G3X will be without the EIS option. I want engine monitoring separate from the G3X. If the G3X dies the G5 is the backup, but no engine info in that case.
  4. Considering this plan for new panel. Currently have the GNS 530W, GTX 345, KX 155, and the GMA 340. Everything else will be new. Comments (constructive or otherwise) appreciated. Angelos
  5. https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?partNumber=G3X-TCERT-00&tab=manuals Try the link above for the manuals.
  6. G5, or other standby instrument, is required for IFR flight. An installation can be certified as VFR only and a standby instrument is not required. On the plus side, with a G5 you can still operate the GFC 500 even if the G3X fails. I found all the manuals on the Garmin web page. Not sure of the install manual, someone on this site said it was for Garmin installers only.
  7. Did some more research and found that the LRU kit that is part of the system includes GSU 25D Air Data Computer, Aircraft Heading and Reference System (ADAHRS), GMU 11 Magnetometer, GTP 59 Temperature Probe, GPS Antenna.
  8. Leaving Sugarland airport in Texas, on way back home. Crazy weather buildups all around. Houston controllers did an excellent job, together with what were were able to see, we managed to stay clear of real bad stuff all the way home.
  9. I’m going with the same setup minus the 750, I have a 530W, aGTX 345, and an EDM 900 already in the panel. What equipment is the backlog on? Mind sharing who’s doing the work, and ballpark $$$.
  10. As @kpaul said, I’m based at DeFuniak Springs airport, and have used Eric at Eagle Aviation Maintenance when it was called Monarch. Eric is very through and easy to get along with. I did not do my lad5 annual with him since I was looking, and found, someone that allowed me to participate in the process. If you go with Eric at EAM you won’t be disappointed.
  11. Very nice. Something similar is what I’ll be looking next year after panel upgrade this year.
  12. Probably a stupid question, but.... you still need to keep the clear lens wing tip covers, even if you install the Whalen 650s, right?
  13. I should clarify, the price includes installation on new EDM 900 plus new panels.
  14. Since half the part are needed for the G3X and the other half for for the GFC 500, aren’t they part of each package? If so, should they be included in the price of the main item that requires them for the install, or is each one priced separately? Overall price for this was approx 37K, sound right?
  15. I asked an avionics shop for an estimate to install a G3X and the GFC 500, they came back with the below requirements. can you all fill me in on all this so I’m not to clueless when I go speak to them. I read as much as I can, but still fuzzy about it all.
  16. Very nice! Where did you get all the work done, and who cut the panel?
  17. St, Clair County airport in Pell City Alabama. Ricky Gilmore, he worked at an MSC for more than thirty years. Oldguy, on MS, told me about him. There are three Monies on the field and another three within 50 miles that he takes care of. I have been doing just about everything, with his guidance/supervision. Great experience. He also was not concerned about the low compression numbers, reiterated some of the stuff that has already been said. So far so good, if I get the baffels go material that I ordered yesterday from Spruce, I should be done tomorrow.
  18. The check was done about three hours after shut down. I’ll have him do another once the annual is done and we take it around the pattern a couple of times. Thanks for putting my mind at ease, at least somewhat.
  19. Correction he only took the top plugs out, not the bottom.
  20. Not the same guy. He took all the spark plugs out and then check the pressure via the top plugs.
  21. I have a 1997 M20J and during last years annual all the cylinder compression were in the high seventy. During this years annual three are in the high sixties and one in low sevenths.1600hrs on engine. What could have caused this?
  22. Very nice, congratulations!
  23. Where is the list of airplanes that are covered?
