What makes you say that Dave's cowling mod is "no where near as good?"

Thank you. I'm sure I'll find this to be interesting, I may have a personal positive bias in favor of Purdue and SLU anyway

Specifically because of the MAPA PPP comment in Sky Manor thread: (and also in regards to the "rash of accidents as of late") Does anyone have [or has seen] any actual data about attendees of MAPA PPP accident rates or incident rates? It would obviously be cool to say "anyone who has ever attended doesn't have an accident" but in case I didn't make it clear in other places, I'm not interested in anecdotes. Which leads me to the next question of: Does anyone have [or has seen] any data about other brands/types of planes safety records with additional voluntary training? A natural extension of that question is: Does anyone have [or has seen] any data about accident/incident rates with AOPA and FAASafety voluntary participation? A more obscure extension would be the dataset of the amount of time that had elapsed since a pilot's BFR and an incident or accident. I'm always interested in expanding the "dataset" for anyone who wants to contribute to that. I am not interesting in speculating on the "results" of these datasets; please do not clog up the thread with that. Nearly all of you have been around the flying community much longer than I have and I am looking for specific sources. (Not how to send an email to the referenced sources) Again please do not clog the thread with speculation or anecdotes.

Are you saying that the UK derived no benefit from the Marshall Plan, and only received a large amount of debt? I was implying that the Marshall Plan was a pretty big thank you to the US, not to the UK, aka it was a huge boon to the US economy. Aka the US "won the war" so the Marshall Plan was repayment (thank you) for "winning the war" sent in the form of a bill for "helping to rebuild Europe."
-
At this point I suppose I have to make a reasonable endorsement of the B-Kool, I did not purchase it, but my flying compatriot did and it worked as well as could be expected.
-
The Marshall Plan was a pretty big thank you even if they had no choice It was almost restitution for all those damn taxes. Oh wait, now we have all the damn taxes...something wrong here...

Once I put a lightweight starter in there my useful load will be really close to 1100 lbs...I see a scale in the near-ish future.

I get on just fine with most Brits I've met

I don't think Andy even used the word Mooney in his post unless he edited it out?

It's apparently a www redirect issue. works at www.mooney.com and not at mooney.com

Radios removed for upgrade - now for sale
jkhirsch replied to M20Kid's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
KX155, I'm not sure if the radio actually works or if it is just a bad display. Just one "quickie" fix that I saw somewhere along the way. -
The only excuse I have for not making this is the same excuse I have for not making the fly-in at Lakeland Saturday. Tailgating for the Florida-Kentucky game.

Sorry I totally forgot that I asked about it. One of these days I need to take the faceplate off of my current radio and see if it truly is just the "clean the gold contacts" to make the display work again problem. Also I think the KY197 is a smaller form factor than what I've got right now so I don't know exactly about the mounting. I feel like I'm getting deshavu asking about a KY197, and I was thinking someone else said they were going to keep it as a backup. I'm not in an astronomical hurry about it, just a lingering issue. -

Is they KY197 for sale? I have looked twice at the pictures and listing to make sure I'm not missing something. -
Cirrus down in Houston - fatalities.

Just read through this thread, very sad. For those curious ones the name of the holding company for the plane only makes it "worse." -
Hey Oscar, don't know what you're style is I generally prefer low-key operations. I have flown in and out of Saint Louis many times. I have flown in and out of CPS many times for cardinals games when some family is staying in a downtown hotel. However when I am visiting other family 1H0 suits my needs just fine. I don't think they have any rental cars on-site but it's easy enough to prearrange an enterprise pickup ahead of time. The travel distance to WashU is comparable, 1H0 being a little bit farther (~3 miles) by road mileage. Have used Ideal and Jet aviation, don't remember exactly what the "issue" with ideal was, but used Jet in the past, they also provided free shuttles back and forth to World Series games. CPS will let you "avoid the bravo altogether;" however approaching from the South it's not as difficult to avoid the Bravo shelf to the ground. I also have many times enjoyed seeing the sights following directly over I-64 under the bravo shelves out to 1H0. CPS may make more sense, and you may choose CPS, but aforementioned I generally prefer lower-key operations when possible. If you make a tight counterclockwise loop of the CPS tower airspace you can fly directly over the Mississippi river and get an fantastic view of the arch, downtown and the stadium, bang a hard right "onto" I-64 and get an even better view of the stadium quickly followed by SLU's campus, then a great view of Forest Park, then WashU's campus, then downtown Clayton as you head 2-3 minutes west to 1H0. Wave to my baby sister as you go by! (Yes, sister)

I have not seen these Allen bikes before, interesting. I looked at the specs page for these bikes and am having a hard time imaging how they shed 5 pounds in the handlebars, seat/seatpost, rims, crankset and pedals, between the highest and second highest mod of the bikes. Also interesting to me that they use mtb components instead of road components. I have a fair amount of experience hauling bikes around in the plane and it's not convenient just due to the loading through the passenger door. With the bike folded up can you load it through the baggage door? If Chris doesn't buy them I might be interested in the Carbon frame one.

Good point, I only saw the listing for the experimental G5s at $1200 and didn't really read all the details.
-
Unfortunately it does look like the price has "doubled" according to this AOPA article. The $2500 figure apparently includes a GPS antenna. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2016/july/24/garmin-g5-stc

Mike: I gotcha, I thought you meant it as though he was 'rushing to get back home after Florida and didn't consider the conditions where he was headed' my mistake. -

Chris: I just mostly disagree, if time in type is valuable (required by insurance), and if training is valuable (required for the license), then training in type must be valuable. If, admittedly, other planes are more forgiving that leaves to door open to develop bad habits based on those characteristics, or possible a "reversion to training" during a stressful situation. There are clearly arguments in favor of both sides many of them equally valid. -

Mike: The thread about it says weather was "disgustingly" VFR at his destination around the time. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/17344-mooney-down-around-montréal/?do=findComment&comment=249886 Let's not go questioning his decision making ability before he even set foot in the plane. He made many comments about flights/trips delayed or cancelled in other threads, because of weather if my memory serves me correctly, he struck me as a cautious pilot. I recall a thread in which he wanted information about taking his Rocket to the service ceiling, and having an 'instructor' with him. When many people would have just jumped in the plane and flown it up there.
