  1. Yves Unknown if Billie will come along aviation is not high interest for her... It will be great to see you guys again for sure.
  2. Today I flew my first of what I hope to be many formation flights, culminating with the Mooney Caravan to Oshkosh... If you want a fantastic group of people to learn formation flying or just improving your flying skills I would highly recommend it! What a challenge and what a thrill at the same time a great joy!!! Here is a shot of my first formation flight! Who hoo what a great experience.
  3. Welcome aboard, glad to have you!
  4. Contact tower, has happened to me more than once in high traffic area, DFW, DEN, HOU, PHX that I can recall I don't think they like little planes.. In those busy airports. One thing more I very much like and use extended run way and synthetic approach now and find them extremely useful to reduce nerve racking when I can't see airport... especially in an unfamiliar airport area. Fly safe
  5. Cody... no worries mate, all set 3 blade prop already installed. However I think it may need to be balanced, coan you balance it for me? No need for a prop govuner it is a Rocket..lol
  6. It's starting to look at lot like Mooney.. A little more progress, slow going for sure. Especially considering the documentation is less than adequate at best. Additionally I'm taking the extra time and effort for some upgrades... remember I fly a Rocket! The kit does not allow for a steerable nose gear, not access panels so I modified the kit to include one piece tail removable panel, same for engine compartment.
  7. Congratulations, welcome to the world of Mooniacs! Wishing you many years of safe & Happy flying.
  8. N1016U Scale Model Mooney Rocket RC Update! Have made some progress on the build. The motor (and I say again NOT the .40 as the manufacture recommends, after all I HAVE A ROCKET so I went with a .60) mounted and firewall hardware complete with steerable nose gear. Also in line with the Rocket I reinforced the firewall and engine mount with extra structural elements and special adhesives to ensure proper engine power to airframe transfer! Ran into some problems with the laminar flow wings as I am now waiting on the 3rd set to arrive and this time the MFG Guarantees they will be correct and wont split this time!... we will see. The darn things come all the way from Europe!!!! The forming of the woods have been the most challenging so far, but also the most rewarding to me so far. Most of the pieces are laser cut and fit well but some are just blank pieces of wood that must be formed and fitted (ie the decks). Hope to complete the fuselage structure this weekend. Will be taking lots of pictures of all aspects and angles of my Rocket so I can attempt to duplicate the lines, wingtips, lights, antenna and of course the aircraft color and graphics. Planning on having working Taxi & Landing lights, wing tip strobe lights (dont know how to strobe yet) and of course red and green navigation lights! Engine and 3 blade prop installed and ready to reassemble! As promised here are a couple shots of the fuselage as of last night!
  9. More than great as usual.... We'll except for Dave short changing us because he says he does not have time! And last but not least the cover shot with the 4 Mooney are spectacular! Guess I better try and be nice to Dave he is suppose to teach me how to be a safe part of something like that photo!
  10. Norbert I have one of RIP AOA new in box I purchased in the Mooney group, I already have the Alpha so if you need a unit quick i would be willing to see if we could work something out.. pM me if I can help.
  11. I do so appreciate the words of warning.... sounds like it might be coming from a man with first hand experience!!!
  12. Thanks for the feedback, just going to be me.... the wife bailed on me due to schedule conflict! Looking to see where others are staying to maximize the enjoyment of the event. This is my first fly in to attend... yep in over 30 years of flying this is my first! LLL
  13. Better have multiple gear ratios..... if you can tug a Mooney by pedal power I don't think you will want to ride something that slow! Also a lightweight person on a tire the width of a bicycle will require a significant amount of coefficient from the tire to the pavement or ground etc.... Might be a little more difficult than one might imagine... oh there I go again system integrating.... as has been my living and career for over 30 years now.... Now the last problem I see is getting my wife to pedal it while I supervise!!! Oh and if I want her to know what I said I will tell her, thank you very much! One last think, all kidding aside I like the idea, as we say around here may need a Sanity Check to see if we can get any traction for it!
  14. Congratulations indeed! Travel safe and may God bless you and your new wife with years of happiness!
  15. I am preparing to attend the 2014 Mooney Homecoming. Looking for info on where everyone planning on staying? I plan to arrive on the afternoon of the 10th - departing afternoon of the 13th. Looking for info and recommendations on: Lodging (10,11 & 12th) Car Rental (open to sharing a rental car with one or more if logistics can be worked out) Let me know, PM me if you like, Lacee
  16. Marauder I have a machine shop and welding equipment and I owe u a favor is there something I can do to help? I just converted an EZ tow to fit my Rocket can send Picts but not exactly same as your unit. My unit has collapse able arms that insert the tubes I constructed into nose wheel. Let me know,
  17. Oh and a couple more things, fly enough and like me you will experience failures. Vacuum pump, AI, JPI engine monitor, radios, transponder, ILS antenna, v belts, alternator hence electrical power, landing lights just when you need them most, etc... I expect and practice for a glass failure too!
  18. I have had both and will never if given a choice go back to steam! My Saratoga had sudo glass with Sandel 3500 & Garmin 530 but the real back up we're a series of portable Units. I have owned and used the Garmin 296, 396, 560, 696, PC tablet now my Rocket has dual IPads, Clarity SV with Garmin G500 SVT, GTN 750 & 650. I have had to use the portable on more than one occasion in IMC, life saver for sure. If I fly anything steam or glass I am a big believer in backup, I credit to saving my life and others with me twice! So glass or steam get and use backups they are CHEAP life saving insurance. Never had a failure with the G500 but less than a year old.... Subscription cost is way to high but what can u do.... I could have gone either way Garmin or Aspen both good units. ALL man made things can and do fail, some just more than others, I am slightly more concerned with a full glass failure as you have so much data in that one or more electrical unit.... Again I say back up is a wise option (no ship power backup too). Fly safe, let us know what you decide!
  19. Great honor to the military aviation history! Glad to see it.....
  20. Great acknowledgment, well done Sir!
  21. is it Skyvision Xtream?
  22. which one?
  23. Just to opposite. I have Garmin G500 with GTN 750 & 650 with ADS-B. I also have the IPad with Clarity SV using FlyQ software mounted on my yoke. You will see your craft as traffic (so far I have seen as much as 300 +/- different alt. suspect due to Mode C transponder at 29.92). Clarity SV does not send ADS-B Out, I understood that no portable ADS-B sends an out. ADS-B Weather not as good as XM but I can live with it most of the time. Especially wish the cloud cover was as good as XM. Marauder is CORRECT please be careful as ADS traffic is only transmitted when and it receives a valid ADS-B traffic trigger from an aircraft within its area of concern. See the FlyQ all about ADS-B video Steve did a good job on that one it is very informative. Fly Safe,
  24. Not the kind of gliding I want to do.... Glad it worked out!
