  1. I got a new GoPro 360 and the Rock Steady tie down attachment for Christmas. Has anyone else used this to attach their GoPro’s to their Mooney’s? I’m a little skeptical that it’s going to stay in one place and worry about it loosening and banging against the bottom of the wing. PIREPS appreciated.
  2. Cylinder #3 on my TSIO-360-LB constantly runs 20-30 degrees hotter CHTs than any other cylinder. It limits my ability to run nice power settings by creeping up near 400 degrees while the rest are nicely 370 degrees or below. Any ideas on a culprit or do I just need to work on the baffling. It’s right below the oil filler door, and I suspect that may have something to do with it. Happy New Year!
  3. So when I had my GTX345 installed last year, I also had the shop do the pitot/static certification. On the first flight after getting the plane back, I immediately had an issue raising the gear and learned the airspeed sensor had failed. I flew pressing the bypass button a few times and began to realize that at times, when sitting still my Aspen would show me at between 20 and 30 kias. Upon takeoff roll and the introduction of ram air it would immediately true up with the analog airspeed indicator. Then it went away for like 6 months. Now it has returned. Any thoughts on the culprit? My theory is that they overpressure it during the pitot check and blew the airspeed switch and damaged a diaphragm or mechanism in the Aspen.

  5. Received this beauty tonight: Global Aircraft Insurance Renewal Premium Increase: 10XXXXXX The above referenced insurance policy 1XXXXX through Global Aerospace will expire at 12:01 A.M. on February 15, 2021.Global Aerospace would like to inform you of the following:The conditions in the aviation insurance market continue to evolve as the industry works to quantify the impact of the claims being presented. As a result, the above-reference policy may be subject to a premium increase with respect to the upcoming renewal. I guess it’s nice they gave me 3 months notice.
  6. I recently had a similar issue where my Amp meter would randomly go crazy. My voltage on the JPI would also vary. It got resolved by spraying the master switch connections with contact cleaner. Got the idea from another thread on the site.
  7. Haha. I actually got a flier in the mail today from them asking if my plane was damaged in the Nashville tornado earlier this year and telling me they'd fight the insurance company on my behalf.
  8. I have a stock 231, have owned it for for 7 years now, and love it. It has a useful load of 965 lbs and I typically operate it between 10k and 15k feet. Minus some minor bootstrapping from time to time, I have not seen any of the issues that people commonly gripe about on this site. I only recently got GAMIs installed and will say it’s a game changer. I operate between 10.7 and 11.3 GPH LOP and regularly see true air speeds in the upper 160 knot arena, after climbing to my cruise altitude at over 800 fpm the whole way near gross. I have undertaken some projects on it and dealt with the aftermath of a not great A&P that I used for the first few years of ownership (you live and learn) but my next upgrade will be an intercooler as it does get difficult to keep CHTs under 400 degrees at times in the heat of summer here in the south without putting the cowl flaps in trail. I have contemplated upgrading to a 252 from time to time when nice ones come on the market (that I can afford), but it’s hard to give up the value that you get from a 231 (performance for purchase price and operational costs). Also that UL is great when you are loading up the family and luggage for a vacation. I have about 550 lbs to work with after filling the tanks all the way up. You can’t go wrong with anything in the K family. Make sure you get yourself a good prebuy and do your research on this site about operational settings. Then have a blast. Once you go turbo you’ll never go back.
  9. Can you post the STC or where you found it
  10. I can add an intercooler now without modifications to the exit area. The 252 cowling, minus the cowl flaps, is not shaped that differently (if at all. I just tried to compare via photos on Controller) and I would be willing to bet it would fit the MB as is or with a field mod.
  11. Disclaimer: I know nothing about the STC process. Im really not interested in the full “262” upgrade that he did. I just want the ability to hang a TSIO-360-MB on the nose and take advantage of the benefits of upgrades to the current TSIO-360-LB engine. [Side note: it blows my mind that even though they are the same basic engine on the same airframe I can’t do this to start with or with minimal effort] What does modifying a STC look like? Could we use the info from his STC to validate a new one for just the engine? Also could upgrading to the -MB be completed via a 337 if I found willing participants?
  12. Does anyone know Coy's kin well enough that they could see about purchasing it from the estate? If they aren't going to perform it, its a worthless piece of paper to them (right?), and may be obtainable for a reasonable sum. I'd be interested in getting a group together (under an LLC or something) and purchasing it then offering it out for sale on the market(do your own installation) to help recoup some investment. After putting it on my 231 of course.
  13. Reading further it appears that it will only apply if independent backup instruments are not available, but being able to upgrade and eliminate them is a selling point of Aspen. Is this the end for them? If I was doing it all over again I wouldn’t put one in knowing this.
  14. Am I reading what the FAA wants to do here correctly? 2020-16-08.pdf
  15. @shawnd I think I have one, I’ll check today. $100. DM me.
  16. I currently have no means or intention of doing this (bored on a Friday), but I like to keep up with the Mooney market and have noticed this one on Controller for a long time located in Poland: https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/189799457/2008-mooney-acclaim Doesn't seem like a terrible deal, includes delivery to the homeland, and with its time on the market I assume there is some wiggle room on that price. Hypothetically, what am I looking at having to do in order to get this reregistered in the US of A, outside of normal purchase considerations of the same plane already US registered Contact: www.plane4you.eu contact@plane4you.eu +48 515 626 410 Taxes Price + VAT Worldwide delivery possible All documents since new We offer this aircraft as exclusive broker - contact us for any questions Aircraft Subject to Prior Sale or Removal from Market without Notice Specification Subject to Verification by Purchaser Specification based on information from Owner and documents from CAMO and AMO organizations WHY SHOULD YOU BUY THIS PLANE? Great performance Very good technical and visual condition Perfect plane to fast flying in VMC/IMC weather condition
  17. @Brett Larsen I’m interested in how you got this done as well. I would pay some serious money to be able to upgrade my LB to an MB

  19. I’m based at Smyrna and go down to Cole aviation in Dalton, GA.

  21. Earlier this year Dorr told me they wouldn’t go below 5.35%. Granted that was on a refinance but still astronomically high in my opinion.
  22. My gear is starting to look a little rough. Thinking about having them taken off, cleaned, and painted at my next annual. Anyone have an estimate on removal and installation labor hours?
  23. Relocate the throttle body, overboost relief, and create a tuned intake manifold for the TSIO-360-LB.
