  1. Past hour
  2. This is the thought process Lasar seems to think we're not capable to go down. They say: How does this make any sense?? Pay us a min of USD 200/month so we only raise the price to 30% instead of 100%??? They are basically looking for a huge price increase. And not on a part by part basis but merely to have the privilege to be able to buy a part, maybe! Why oh why did I buy a Mooney. I'll sooner seriously think about a turbo A36 before I pay into this fishy, full of red flags, nontransparent scheme.
  3. This is the greatest of reasons for modification of a plane I recall seeing an STC for E models somewhere that did not involve installation of new autopilot as I was exploring this possibility few years ago for reasons not related to the width of my co-pilot's posterior, but cannot find it in my old docs as I no longer own the E.
  4. I suspect you value engine time at $30/hour unless you have a budget overhaul shop to recommend
  5. Today
  6. Dick, I’d recommend posting that in the “Aircfraft Classified” section further down. It will get its own thread and that’s where people will look. Additionally, you might want to get someone to look through the ad with you, there are a few errors highlighted about the engine being factory new versus overhaul that will detract from your ad. As pinecone stated it is not factory new. But the overhaul from Western skyways is still valuable.
  7. It spins the trim wheel and fully actuates the normal trim system. When hand flying I usually revert to using manual trim, or when lazy, i use electric trim but put my fingertips on the wheel to feel it move.
  8. There is a fixed pushrod to the bungee assembly attached to the airframe. When the stab moves the pushrod imparts an effective force on the bungees. Or another way to look at it is that the bungees don’t move while the tail does and thus imparts the appropriate spring force on the elevator.
  9. I would be more happy to pay directly to Mooney as an supporter than to Lasar. Now I feel the money get into the wrong pockets. As I wrote before Lasar did markup a part with 60% just to drop ship it directly to me. Would be 100times better if Mooney took 40% of that money, and then Lasar had a normal cut like 20% instead. Will see what happens, but for $200 each month and only 10% discount on parts not worth it. Let's say I will need a part in 2 years that cost $5000, then I get 10% ($500 off) and then pay $4800 in "subscription fees" = $4500+4800 = $9300... Guess it's better to pay full price instead. Why not add an "supporter" subscription for $10-$30 instead to help out in general.
  10. That’s good progress at least. Depending on your wire bundle there, you might need something pretty flexible between gaps to seal it completely which is how people end up with “putty” or foam or whatever. It’s an easy place to see for yourself. So maybe when your mechanics are done, take off the battery compartment cover just behind the left wing and look down near the bottom left corner. You should see the wire bundle pass through a bulkhead there.
  11. I believe that they are. Here is a topic from the past. Clarence, formerly M20Doc before the bastards here ran him off, provides helpful clarification. Also below is Mooney Service Instruction 67 from 1983. Mooney originally used J7444-30 mounts and fasteners but changed to the -34. It has some useful instructions on how to replace. SIM20-67.pdf
  12. If you go to kerrcad.org, do a property search and type in Mooney International
  13. @LANCECASPER Lance, I thought that sounded too good to be true! The link wouldn't work though; says search expired.
  14. That lease was broken over 5 decades ago when they filed bankruptcy in 1969. But even still today they pay very little rent to stay in Kerrville. They are however assessed a significant amount each year for the improvements and the equipment. Edit after @Marc B 's comment: If you go to kerrcad.org, do a property search and type in Mooney International
  15. My M20C N6821V was personally owned by Ralph Harmon from new in 1971 for about 12 years. He was the chief engineer of Mooney for over a decade including when my (ours/his) plane was built. I didn't know that Mr. Harmon was such a legendary figure who designed the V tail Bonanza.
  16. Using 1/2" thick tempered glass helps immensely
  17. I ran out of popcorn reading all of this thread--fascinating stuff. I spewed out all of the remaining popcorn in mouth when I thought how "easily" taking over and solving all of the problems Mooney and LASAR evidently have, seeing that not many of us on here actually pay the pissant $25/year to be "Supporting Member" of MS. Maybe we can all start by doing that before we start throwing rocks inside our own glass house. One more quick thought, and this is based solely on what they've published: it seems obvious to me that LASAR have no idea about their own market and what sells and what doesn't. Their latest scheme, though clever, will never fly unless and until they get to know their market and marketplace, specifcally Mooney. Shame on them for showing up barely knowing how to spell "Mooney", much less expect us to trust them with the company's survival going forward. This makes Beechcraft/Textron products look all the more appealing by the minute . . . and that ain't no compliment to them, either.
  18. Speaking to a friend who's reading The Al Mooney Story. Just to hammer home the reason why Mooney is and was unlikely to move from Kerrville, TX..."Kerrville offered Al a ninety-nine-year lease on the airport for a dollar a year." I believe Mooney left Wichita and moved to Kerrville in 1953. Lots of financial incentive to stay; lots of financial disincentive to try to move everything.
  19. None of that matters if you can’t make anything. If you can’t “operate” you can’t be “operational”
  20. It looks like the guys at Lasar are listening to the feedback. There are more details on the website. I am reviewing.
  21. All of that makes sense to me. I'm still struggling with this method. I thought the trim wheel in the Mooney adjusted the angle of incidence of the stabilizer via a jackscrew. But I don't understand how the spring bungees play into this. Does the trim wheel also provide the preload to the springs? If so, why are they even necessary as I would think you would just adjust out the force with the stabilizer AOI. If not, where does the preload come from? If it is fixed, then it is really not being adjusted by the pilot and is not really an 'active' trim adjustment. More like what @DCarlton was referring to: the spring force would be dependent on the aerodynamic load, i.e. airspeed dependent. I'm probably missing something obvious...
  22. ^^^ THIS ^^^ My only disappointment is that my F has electric gear and flaps! It does have just manual trim, which I love! My ideal purchase would have been J-bar, and completely manual flaps like a B model (NOT even hydraulic).
  23. I fully agree, but my copilot has a wide ass. (Luckily for me, although I didn't know it at the time I bought the airplane a few months ago, the airplane was modified somewhere in its past, to an electric gear. Actuating the manual gear would have been a problem with the current state of my copilot hips)
  24. I had the shim installed last week. made a big difference. I bought it from laser, by going to the service bulletin page on there website. You an also just google “ Laser service bulletin kits”.
  25. I plan to measure this week. Will report back.
