Not quite 190 , well into the 175 180 range , When I used to fly a J model , it was about 145 to 150   , that is what I am using for a reference , I have a 64 S35 , supposedly the fastest of the N.A. Bonanzas..... I never run it that hard though , usually run it at about 160....

 

The fastest S35 or V35B I have ever flown was 175 KTAS. 75% book cruise speed is listed at 178 KTAS.   Over on Beechtalk, one guy has an F33 with an IO-550R, and ROP flat out, it goes 180 KTAS. 

 

You will find a proper M20J to be a 155 knot cruising machine (ours is) , and some of the later ones are 160 perhaps 162 KTAS.  I'd claim the average S35 is 15-20 knots faster than an average M20J. I can't buy 30 knots, no way.

Fortunately IO550s are available in Mooneys. Missiles, Eagles, Ovations and Acclaims

Mooneys with IO550s go faster than Bs with IO550s

To go even faster, you will need to add a Hartzell TopProp turning 2700 rpm. Or take your acclaim to the flight levels and beyond!

Or go in Mooney style and operate LOP!

I have to settle this once and for all , The quote RJ is referring to is in the "ground hog day" post where I said that the Bonanza is 30 knots faster than my M20E at a given power setting , My E is not as fast as a J it is a 140 knot airplane , Im really getting tired of kicking this horse around with RJ ....  also My Bo is not a 550 engine , it is a 520 ...285 horse ......

His piece of garbage is an MSE which is a 160 knot all-day airplane. a 285 horse S35 is a 175 maybe 178 knot machine.  

 

you might want to consider rigging your E model, they can match a J for the most part, 150-153 KTAS. With the J cowling they will smooth kick an M20J's ass to the curb. My friend's M20E with the J cowl will.

I'm not hating, I love Bonanzas, but they like gas too much for me.

I love anything with wings.....My E does have a J cowling , perhaps I just dont run it that hard , 24 square nets 140 on the airspeed indicator ... Maybe I am doing something wrong......Maybe it needs to be rigged.....Funny thing , it is not any faster than my B model was ,although it burns less fuel at that speed,   but the B had every speed mod..... The E only has the SWTA Cowl mod......

Makes me and 'smiles look like a love affair ;-) My MSE is an easy 162-4 kts ROP and about 155 LOP. I too really like Bo's particularly TN ones. The V-35 I ride in was a 170-5 kt plane. It now has a 550G and gets close to 190 ROP. It burns so much fuel the owner refuses to install a totalizer.

You can try that but the hole in the injector is only .029....
