Had one of these installed at annual and it works great except I really can't figure out how to get the LOP or ROP screens to work right. I pull back on mixture quite a bit, stop, and sometimes I wait 30 minutes or even longer for it to come up with the Peak ranges. Clearly doing something wrong.

Appreciate any guidance by somebody who has one.

What made you lean towards the MVP-50??

Don Maxwell said it was like a JPI but did an expletive so much more. I have yet to explore the more exotic features but thus far have been pleased with it. The only thing I really can't figure out are the LOP/ROP screens which sometimes pop right away, other times pop 30 mins in flight, other times never pop. It really cleans the panel up and puts things all in one place and having a TIT is nice for leaning up high (I have a RayJay in my M20F). Can't though give you a comparison to a JPI as I have not flown with one.

The only annoyance is that the idiot lights which are not intelligent and can be distracting. I can't run my prop between X and Y over 24" but if I am under 24" it is ok, the idiot lights don't know that and so they flash yellow all the time (you can clear it which holds for 10 minutes for a yellow warning) that over the course of a 4hr flight makes me nuts. On take off my prop over speeds 2700 RPM a bit which leads to a red light. One day my fear is I am going to miss the oil line breaking and pressure going to zero because I am so conditioned by the red blip.

The CO2 monitor addition I got with it works great, open the door while taxing it registers.

Next year is long range tanks + speed brakes and I am done :-)

I installed a MVP-50 in my panel primarily because my avionics shop convinced me they were the best. My personal experience was that while I was shopping I had a chance to visit the JPI shop and even after calling them in advance kind of got a cold reception. Called EI and was teated totally different so when my shop said to use EI and the MVP-50 it was an easy decision. The MVP 50 was a tiny bit more expensive however my shop said it had more features. Pacific Avoinics is in the process of calibrating my unit now and so far after doing the weight and balance and programing this function, the reports I am getting is that it works great. Next to do is the fuel calibrations and other fine tuning. I don't have actual time on it yet but will report when I get my Mooney flying.

Hmmmm.....this is going to be a tough decision for me.....I love the size of the new EDM900 but have not heard much in terms of reviews. everything regarding the MVP-50 seems to be very positive. Thanks.

Replacing the fuel gauges with the MVP-50 is definitely possible. I'm not sure if it requires additional hardware, though. I know EI has replacement fuel senders that work on a different principle, and in theory should be much more reliable, but I don't believe they're required.

Mine included all the probes, senders, etc. and replaces all engine instruments, vacuum gauge, OAT, Clock, etc. Also has weight and balance screen plus a bunch of other useful things. It was around $9-10K installed but that included cutting a new left side panel, moving some radios, and some other stuff to make it work.

Is it panel space or the lure of the flat screen? G3 and EI certified individual gauges installed (WITH REDUNDANCY) and TWO clocks as well as cutting and installing a Co-Pilot panel for well under $10k. The only response I ever get is that I like the alarms...yet I have not ever had an alarm and I use the visual "lit" gauges in my panel scan. It seems the alarm is a source of problem on here (false). I also question having the engine instruments mounted way over on the right side of the plane all stacked into the flat screen vs. the individual LED and digital read-out AND having G3 (with hands down best lean-find) on pilot panel in primary scan...

I have the MVP-50 too. When you use the ROP/LOP screens, make sure they are selected. You push the knob to highlight the desired screen, then turn the knob to the one you would like to use, then push the knob again to select it. It can take a while to reach peak sometimes, but 30 minutes is way too long. I'm no expert though. I'm still struggling with the whole engine management thing too. Right now my problem seems to be erratic fuel flow indication.

does the MVP-50P come with the stuff to replace the fuel gages? Or is that an option?

It is an option, so it costs extra. I did mine and it required my fuel sending units to be sent out for rebuilding to make them accurate and also a complete drain of the fuel tanks, so try to bring your plane in with as little fuel as possible as they may not allow you to put the fuel back. I am quite pleased with the fuel gauges now, they're quite accurate.

For me it is panel space
