McMooney Posted Thursday at 01:39 AM Report Posted Thursday at 01:39 AM not a j but in my E with 52 gallon tanks, i do approx 3 to 4 hour legs. actually it's more based on which tank i'm on, i start on tank 1, switch after an hour, empty tank 2, land. tend to land with 15 to 20 gallons of fuel. ArtVandelay Posted Thursday at 03:33 AM Report Posted Thursday at 03:33 AM I use about 8.7 GPH (LOP) at 8-9000’ but plan on 9 for easy math and to be conservative, so 7 hours is my absolute limit, but 6 is the maximum I plan for. This gives me conservatively 150 kts TAS, so no wind absolute max range is 900nm. 1 Quote
DC_Brasil Posted Thursday at 10:25 AM Report Posted Thursday at 10:25 AM The longest I've flown in the mooney was a 4h trip. I like to run LOP at lower RPM settings, so I consistently get lower CHTs and fuel burn (1990 M20J). Cruising at 11,000, WOT/2300 and LOP I see between 7,5 and 8,2 gph at 143kts TAS. 1 Quote
AndreiC Posted Thursday at 02:02 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:02 PM The longest I did in my E was 5:12 covering 993 sm (863 nm) at 13,500. Landed with 8.8 gallons left out of the full 54.8. The winds were good at altitude, and using oxygen kept me in good shape. Quote

My F is essentially a J, although turbonormalized so I can fly in thinner air. BOS to OSH is about 750 - 800 miles. I have done that trip several times landing with 1/4 tanks remaining, 75% power, 100 ROP. John Breda Quote

Additionally, my wife is not enamoured with the Travel Jane solution (or, any other in flight 'solution') You, and your wife's, mileage may vary. I just hate to come down from the teens and have to climb back up again. My SO is not happy with the solution, but accepts it. We found a silicon funnel on Amazon that works better. Still use the Travel Jane as receptacle. Quote
