moodychief Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 I’m in need of a tail tie down ring for a 1963 C model. Does anyone know where I can get one.
Hank Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 McMaster Carr sells them, I just don't remember the thread size. Someone will be along. Be sure to get one with a flange at the bottom. 5/8-11 rings a bell, but it's been well over a decade since I had all three rings powder coated.
Utah20Gflyer Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Lasar makes an upgraded one, I’ve considered buying it but never got around to it.
cliffy Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Try a 1/4 - 20 bolt in it to see I think that is what it is. 1/4 National Coarse IIRC

I replaced my original as about half of it had been shaved off at some point in the plane's life... https://lasar.com/tie-downs/pma-tail-tie-down-ss-tie-down-tail?rq=tie down

Likely, the mount bolt spacing is the same, but the pic below is the ‘63C tail tie down/skid plate version. The eyebolt isn’t listed in moodychief’s ‘61-‘64 model’s IPC (as far as I could tell). The ‘65-‘68 IPC lists the eyebolt as pn 350122-001, the ‘68-‘76 IPC (Manual 205) as pn 350122-003. Salvage yards are your best bet, if you want a legit Mooney part. Eyebolts from the hardware store can probably be made to work, at your (and your A&P/IA’s) discretion.

No idea of part numbers, but that's what it looks like on my 1970 C. No reason a good eye bolt from most anywhere won't work, as long as it screws in. Just get an eye bolt with a shoulder, so it will screw in securely against the flat piece on the bottom.
