A64Pilot Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 Yes it would, it’s not a no fly zone, yet? I can remember flying into El Paso with a flight of six AH-64’s and being vectored over the river and wondering if by chance Mexico minded US Military aircraft in their airspace. So maybe it’s not much of an enforced ADIZ? Quote
Ragsf15e Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 I taught pilot training at Laughlin afb in Del Rio. Our students violated Mexican airspace on a daily basis and we were the only ones that seemed to care. One time I flew my Mooney from del rio to El Paso and I was cleared direct El Paso from a place where the route would take me well into Mexico across the curve of the rio grande… I asked to stay in the US and was told “cleared as requested, let me know when you’re going direct” so I guess there wasn’t much traffic out there since I was just on my own to navigate. So maybe it’s not much of an enforced ADIZ? When I was in UPT at Laughlin (Del Rio, TX), the T-37 recovery was between the highway and the Rio Grande. There was a fork, that had had some students fly in Mexico. The story was that they had been intercepted by Mexican AF and escorted back to the Rio Grande. Quote

When were you there? I was class 82-01. Quote

Pinecone Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Bummer. Had some good times over there. And not THERE. Now, for the real question I need answered was what was the name of the steak restaurant on Highway 90 towards El Paso. That did the mesquite grilled steaks and had all the hats nailed to the ceiling? Quote
Will.iam Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 So was the fly over eagle pass airport maverick county airport 5T9 or just the town itself? I used to bring freight service into 5T9. One night on takeoff I dodged one deer one buck 2 coyotes and a rabbit while taking off down the runway. I don’t know how I missed them all but after that I would do a taxi down the full length of the runway first to scare off any critters before turning around to takeoff. Used to be a military pilot training base in its day now (cira 2007) just a ghost town of an airport. Quote
Will.iam Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Also reminds me one time I had a follow on to Laredo airport and decided to fly following the Rio Grande Canyon at 2000ft and as I did, I saw hundreds of people start running both ways as I flew by. Quote
