I have decided to keep my Delco generator. So, if anyone still has their Delco Remy 12v, 50Amp, P/N 1101915 generator collecting dust or has thoughts of making it your new boat anchor, contact me, I'd like to bring it back to its past glory!

thanks!

I was going to keep mine and have it rebuilt and install an electronic voltage regulator, the cost was the same as buying the alternator kit with everything needed to swap it out. I opted to convert it over and get smoother voltageĀ

I don't know where you were able to purchase an alternator kit for the price of overhauling the generator. Spruce sells the kit for around $1500 and that doesn't include the voltage regulator which is another $300 or more. Then there is the additional panel light installation. Perhaps another $1000 for labor and you are looking at about $3000 to convert. I don't fly enough, or at night, or IFR anymore to justify the conversion. Because then I'd feel like I would have to then upgrade to a new panel and glass instruments for that smooth stable current flow. I would get the frying pan upside the head from the wife if I started all that...

I determined same costs as outermarker. I have one. that needs a rebuild. Georgetown, TX 07TS. I was considering sending in for rebuild, but in 13 years only generator output challenges are not directly related to generator performance. I still may rebuild, but might part with itĀ  considering the slim likelihood that I will ever need to replace again. I may have local shop that cannot rebuild, as they cannot get parts, do the proper bench tests on it to check its condition.

Mechanic who R&R'd generator during annual because of loose bolts, only replaced ends of generator case. He said everything, brushes, armature, etc. looked good. Then it worked good enough to ruin itself and my VR.

When the baffling, that was accidentally misplaced cut through insulator, Voltage went out of site with Amps to 45. It was capable. Pulled breaker to save items downstream. Knew it was a field ground fault, but was not expecting a human induced one. Thought VR failure or grounded field. It was right at generator, so only control would be stop generator. Since I was a good ways from any good place to land I left breaker pulled. I was guessing I would destroy the field. However, pulling breaker left 40V at my Zeftronics VR. Now VR will not control V either and gets very hot. VR costs more than the generator replacement and adds another week waiting for it to be received and installed. At least a little easier than generator.

Salty was kind enough to sell me his when I was troubleshooting an E charging issue while out of town that I needed to ferry asap.

My M20E now has a different generator and regulator.

Upon inspection of the removed generator, we ascertained that the brushes are the only thing that appeared to need replacing.

I did end up purchasing the alternator kit which I have not yet installed.

If anyone wants this core I can pass it on.

What year is your E? I guess I need to find out if the same generator was used on all variants of the I0360. If I can use this, what price do you have in mind? Core price is less than having a company like FedEx pack and ship it from CA to IL.

thanks,

albert
