sdflysurf Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 This sliding thing I have taken for granted got a little jammed up and when I pulled the door closed bent all to hell and back - of course I was at the run-up area. Reached over and after some bending from the pilot seat I got the door to close. Opening the door at my destination was embarrassing, it snagged on my paper thin interior paneling (that I of course just resurfaced) and I had to push it open hard enough to cause a new crack. SMH. Anyway, I don't want to mess around with a used hold open assembly if I don't have to - does anyone make a substitute? If not does anyone know of a someone who sells them in decent shape or any recommendations on what new technology to replace this with? THANKS! Quote
Robert Hicks Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 I just got one from the salvage yard for a fella. It’s polished up nicely with very little effort. Quote
billy hellcat Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 I just got a new arm and was wondering how the install is Quote
Hank Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Doesn't it just screw in? I've not removed mine, but the one on the door comes off easily. Just be careful to not lose the little bearing! Quote

Echo Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 my cabin door hold open is compromised. It does not hold at the stop. Always going closed after you've opened it all the way. Kind of a pain, but I haven't done anything about it. Quote

Periodically i remove it to straighten and lubricate it. Be VERY CAREFUL to not lose the roller bearing from between the two long pieces! Quote
billy hellcat Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 is the arm the same for the baggage door? I ordered the one for the door as it doesn't stay open. It's new and is the new one is very hard to move currently. Will install shortly. Quote

Skates97 Posted June 16 Report Posted June 16 Mine would never stay open and would hit me in the back all the time. My IA didn't have a problem with me putting a small gas strut on it. It holds the door open great, when taxiing or doing runup the prop wash closes it to about 2 inches and then opens back up smoothly at idle. After my baggage door arm got bent terribly by a mechanic I put a small gas strut on that as well. It's nice because as it closes it goes over center and applies pressure to keeping the door shut. Not sure if it would make a difference if the baggage door wasn't latched and not will to try that experiment... They're similar to this but I would have to look at the length and weight rating to see what I have on there, I ordered a few different ones before settling on which worked best. 1 Quote

Echo Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 (edited) So nobody knows if this door hold open will work on an M20E? Edited June 17 by Echo Quote
Hank Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Looks like the right kind, but you'll need to verify the length. Quote

Echo Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Well I followed up on the hinge as I had not received a notice of shipment after a week. Cancelled order as they can't find the part anywhere. Oh well. You'll have that. 1 Quote
