BillYesIAm Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 Hopefully the photos will show you what I am looking for. In the photo you might be able to see that the only identifying mark on the bulb are the letters ERC. The bulb that surrounds it (the strobe) is fine. I only need the plug-in bulb in the middle. I am not sure if this Whelen combination position/strobe light is stock or not, because I could not find anything that helps in the M20 series parts or maintenance manual. Thanks, Bill Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 That looks like a halogen light... I've never seen one on a plane before! I've got a little used Whelen strobe/position tail light to sell. I sold my wing tip lights but the buyer didn't want the tail, and I've been too lazy to make an ad. EricJ Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) That's a "wedge base", and depending on the specifics you can get them many places, like amazon, etc. There are LED replacements available as well. Edited March 26, 2022 by EricJ Quote
FlySafe Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 Hi @BillYesIAm, company below has several types of LED replacement options at a very reasonable price, non-tso parts. I've been happy with mine. FAA AC light bulbs AC_23-27.pdf on legality of PARTS AND MATERIALS SUBSTITUTION FOR VINTAGE AIRCRAFT (pre 1980) attached for your consideration. Happy flying. https://www.aero-lites.com/navmax-product-info kurt Quote
EricJ Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 Oof, this is probably the closest, but it says specifically not to install in the strobe application since it won't tolerate the heat from the strobe. :'( That's definitely something to consider. https://www.aero-lites.com/product-page/led-rear-position-light-wedge-base Quote

I think my best bet is just to get a regular bulb that is made to work within the middle of that strobe lamp, once I find out which one it is. All I need is to positively identify the one that burned out. After all, it has been in there for the past 18 years I have on the airplane and has never burned out until now. Quote
