LANCECASPER Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 This is my first year with the G1000 so I'm using the United States Standard + FliteCharts OnePak. (You show the Pilot Pak above) If I had a Garmin Portable my subscription would cover that and it covers the Premium upgrade to Garmin Pilot, which I'm trying out. (I use my Delaware address on my Garmin account which saves a little.) I'll probably drop the Flite Charts next year and just use charts on my iPad. 1 Quote
aggiepilot04 Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 I pay for the FlightCharts OnePak, which feels like a huge ripoff considering how often I really *require* updates. It's really not that hard to cross-reference with current ForeFlight data. I do that anyways even with current data for redundancy, and I suspect that most of us do the same. The problem is that it's around 2 updates per year (FlightCharts + Navdata) where the OnePak pays for itself...so it ends up being more economical to go with OnePak. I also tried Garmin Pilot when I first transitioned to the G1000, but hated it vs. ForeFlight flight planning/performance calculations....so ended up back on ForeFlight. That was a couple of years ago though, so maybe Garmin Pilot has improved since then. Quote
aggiepilot04 Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 By the way, if you're on the latest G1000 update, you can export your engine/flight logs directly to fly.garmin.com. I love this feature, and you can replay each of your flights complete with engine data and all. It also calculates currency and such, so it's made me a bit lazy in keeping my paper logbook up to date. 1 Quote

Lite seems to have FlightCharts and it seems to be a bit cheaper. But no Jepps NAV data not sure what that means in terms of feature/benefits? Quote

Nav Data alone gets you approaches and the ability to fly ifr. By itself I think it's $299 per year and you're at least legal. You can do plates on a tablet then. Quote

(It's gone up in price $20 for 2022.) It looks like the OnePak is a better deal, but I could be wrong. The PilotPak may include something you need which I'm not aware of (like JeppView). OnePak also includes a subscription for a Garmin Portable and the Premium upgrade for Garmin Pilot. The packages are confusing. 2 1 Quote

I think OnePak is newer than PilotPak so it’s easy just to keep renewing without realizing that they have new options 1 Quote

I do remember way back then it was considerably higher in price. Quote

Healthpilot Posted February 8, 2022 Author Report Posted February 8, 2022 Thank you everyone. It looks like the OnePak+FliteCharts is the better option. I do not need Jepp charts. Quote
