RobertGary1 Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 Just renewed my term life insurance with USAA. As always they have a whole questionnaire on the type of flying you do, number of hours, etc. Of course adding the flying increased my rate. When I asked the underwriter if removing ultralights would change the premium she said "No, the M20 flying is what increased your rate". So there you go, presumably all backed by actuary data. -Robert 1 Quote

Cause if you break your legs with ultralights, they're not paying. 2 Quote
thinwing Posted December 3, 2021 Report Posted December 3, 2021 i just have to LOL...40 years of flying and only injuries Ive suffered were from 2 ulta light engine failures in a row....those things have zilch glide ratio...i mean when the engine quits..you point the nose down at your feet....dont like all the obstructions, barb wire fences, ditches ,boulders etc...close your eyes cause the view isnt getting any better.USAA doesnt have any actuarial data on ultralight death and injuries cause im betting they are not reported. My ultra light doesn’t have a nose but it’s top speed is 25mph so hopefully I can’t get in much trouble. Quote

Nope. I’m covered and it’s declared in my policy. Cost a bit more but usaa does cover aviation. Actually cost be double from their initial non-aviation quote. Quote

And they won't insure my Mooney or my boat. Life insurance came through father-in-law before I started flying, so no problem there. It was a question they asked, though, and things would have changed if I'd started within the first two years of purchase. Quote
