dylanac Posted November 20, 2021 Report Posted November 20, 2021 Upgraded to Bose A20 so looking to sell my Zulu 3s. I've had them for around 3 years and just replaced the ear muffs and pads. Located at KAMW (Ames, IA) and would like to get $650. Willing to deliver up to 75nm from KAMW. Quote

How did you decide the Bose A20's were an upgrade? I love my Zulu 3s. Just bought a second set for my wife. 1 Quote

Probably depends on what feels more comfortable. Quote

Just bought a second set for my wife. The zulus are also absolutely massive and way heavier than the A20s. A20s have less clamping force. Overall ANR was a bit better. I think Bose's Bluetooth implementation is more refined (adjusting volume on headset adjusts phone volume, whereas the volume on the zulus just adjusts the zulus volume and you still need to reach for your phone to adjust volume there, very clunky). Bluetooth sound quality was significantly better, along with sound quality in general honestly. The zulus just sound like cheap drivers to me. I found when I would turn my head even slightly, it would break the seal between the headset and my cheek and the ANR would completely freak out and it was very annoying. The leather pads needed replaced after only 3 years or 250 hours or so of flying. I ended up selling the headset to someone in MN and he loves them, it's a huge upgrade from DC's. My head shape/size was just not made right for them I suppose. The only positive thing I can say for them is that the Zulus seem to have better battery life, but I wired in a LEMO plug to the Mooney so now I don't need to worry about that. The zulus are a fine headset but I still think the A20s are a massive upgrade. $400 is a huge jump but compared to even the cheapest things in aviation like nav databases, oil changes, foreflight subscriptions, and vacuum pumps, it sounds like a bargain to me. Definitely Coke vs Pepsi. I'd probably look at David Clark again before I jumped on Bose. DC has the history and Lightspeed is focused on aviation. Agree the Zulu muffs are deep if that bothers you. I've noticed a few strange audible noise cancelling artifacts on the take off roll but that's it. I think it's important to have glasses that don't interfere with the muff seal. I've heard Boses customer service is not as good as DC or Lightspeed. Coke vs Pepsi. Quote

I think they are both great headsets just the Bose fit me much better. 1 Quote
