The G3X Experimental version does but the certified version does not.

Thanks skip, you are right as I've also just found out from my installer.

I can't understand how Garmin allow this information into the G3X Touch Certified PG when it is not permitted in the first place.

Why would you want to replace an inexpensive, reliable and bone simple system with some expensive position sensors that needs electricity to work?

I’m upgrading the panel anyways and trying to get rid of anything unnecessary. I figure by removing the trim/flap indicators I’ll add to useful load and I won’t have to pay for future repairs of outdated equipment.

If I do keep the indicators does anyone know where I can buy replacements for the front part of the display? There’s a film that seems to be delaminating.

The G3X Touch certified Pilot’s Guide is pretty obviously a cut and paste from the experimental version. I’ve found numerous carry overs that apparently were missed in editing. Most annoying are the numerous statements to refer to the installation manual form more information since the certified installation manual  is only available to dealers who are prohibited from supplying it to the owner.

I would be careful about taking something simple that is working and trading that for an unknown. You're not going to save even a pound by getting rid of the cable indicator and then you'll have to add electronics to sense it which may weigh just as much.  It may be one of those "cool to have" items, but to get it working properly you may end up paying much more labor that it's worth and then still not be satisfied with the performance. The fact that your avionics installer doesn't know whether this works or not tells you that you will be paying for his learning curve.
