I should have taken a picture of it but I've seen a newer Ovation at 26N this summer with turned up wing tips.   Does anyone know if this mod is available for older Ovations?

Thanks,  I believe that is exactly what I saw on an Ovation.   I don't know if it adds any knots but it sure looked good.   I'd like to get that mod on my Ovation before I paint it next year.

Looking at the approval document it used to approved for M20R but was withdrawn.

It's approved for the M20S. just show that to the FSDO and it should be pretty simple to do it on the ovation with a field approval.

I think I would talk to them to find out why the M20R was removed.

Anyone know if these wing tips are approved for "known ice" ?   If not that would be a game killer for me.

They aren’t designated as “known-ice” or not.  It’s a null issue really.  For one, there isn’t enough surface area on the wingtips upon which to place the plumbing and the TKS panels themselves.  They also don’t appear large enough to where if ice did build up there, it would likely cause any appreciable performance loss to adversely affect flight.  Should it happen, and assuming you were experiencing a drop in IAS, carry a couple extra knots on final.  Anything more and you probably wouldn’t want to be flying even a known ice-certified Mooney anyway.

If you really wanted to de-ice that area, you’d probably want to look at something like a Therm-X solution that isn’t as structurally-invasive, but am not clear on how their products are sold or if it would be viable in this case...just a brainstorm.

The most recent Ovations don’t hide the nav lights behind a clear window...

They are surface mounted in a more traditional fashion...

So... there is something that changed... it also could be carbon fiber like the Cowling...

A fancy way to save some complexity of part numbers and a few pounds of UL...
