bradp Posted June 17, 2020 Report Posted June 17, 2020 A stiff wind straight down the runway gives me my best landing distances. So I got that going for me, which is nice. Quote
jlunseth Posted June 19, 2020 Report Posted June 19, 2020 If the OP is only interested in winds straight down the runway, then I don’t really know what the limit is. If the wind truly is straight down the runway then you could tolerate some really high winds. I think you would want to be moving forward and not backwards, and probably for me that would be somewhere around a max of 65 knots, with maybe a 75 kt. indicated airspeed in my 231, but I have landed at higher airspeeds than that too. You would have basically not ground speed once you touch down. I have taxied around in 55 kt. winds without a problem, but at those speeds you need to start treating a Mooney like a Champ and stay on top of your controls. Quote
