GeeBee Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 For all you multi crew member guys, the FAA is only requiring remaining pilot to wear a mask above FL410 when. the other leaves the station.. I have yet to see the new rule if it is a company based waiver or nationwide rule change. Result of coronavirus Quote
Mooneymite Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 Not all multi-crews. That's just for Part 121. As far as I know, the 91K and 135 operators are under the same rules as before. I suspect that 121 was changed to remove one obstacle to single pilot 121 ops which is looming on the horizon. The O2 mask rules are largely ignored by some, but they are (were) based on sound science. In an explosive decompression at the higher flight levels, your TUC is 'really' short. Quote
GeeBee Posted March 26, 2020 Author Report Posted March 26, 2020 Actually. I am told it was a response to Corona virus spread. Still looking for the FAA document to see all who it covers. Quote
StevenL757 Posted March 26, 2020 Report Posted March 26, 2020 Do you know if it is temporary, or likely to be permanent? Haven’t heard anything one way or the other. Quote

I suspect it was initiated long before Corona was anything but a beer. I think the original proposal for the change started in 2005, or 2006. Edited March 26, 2020 by Mooneymite Quote
Andy95W Posted March 26, 2020 Report Posted March 26, 2020 Gus is right- the proposal has been out there for many years. If the final rule isn’t a result of the Coronavirus, it’s one helluva coincidence. It’d be nice to know the truth. Quote
GeeBee Posted March 26, 2020 Author Report Posted March 26, 2020 I know because I still get the emails from Flight Ops that mask cleaning has been an issue for the past month. The change has been requested for several years and rejected. Maybe having a former airline pilot as the Administrator plus the corona virus brought the whole thing to a head. Quote
