Ovation fuel pump

Recommended Posts

has anyone needed to overhaul the fuel pump on the 310HP upgrade for an Ovation ?

Engine does not want to run at low RPM, 700 - 900. It will start to stutter but if you hit the low boost pump ON it will keep running, turn the electric pump off and it runs but slowly want to quit. Hit the electric boost and it will keep running.

Engine run-on with the electric boost on is normal due to a little leakage past the fuel divider. The newer design pumps allow it even more so. That's one way of being reminded its still on when you pull mixture to ICO to kill the engine.

As for not idling at low RPM. The min idle speed is actually 600 RPM. If it's not idling properly there are 3 settings that all have to be adjusted within spec 1) min IDLE rpm, 2) Unmetered Low/idle fuel pressure and 3) idle mixture adjustment. These are all covered in Sect 6 of the TCM M-0 maintenance manual.

The guy that owns the Repair station Don Maxwell uses in Denton TX (David) told me Continental has a SB out to OH the pump and servo every 1K hrs. There is a seal on the shaft that gives out. I was AOG in Denton for a day while transitioning a new to him 2000 ovation owner enroute from FL to Tuscon. I believe it had about 1500 hrs on it. Dont over look this, as the blue staining and obvious fuel pump leak were apparent when we had Dmax look at a different issue enroute.
