Flyingfisher Posted September 1, 2018 Report Posted September 1, 2018 Hey all! Yet another project, lol. I just bought a gently used COMANT CI-196 on fleabay and will be installing it in my trashed No. 1 COMM position. I recently had my interior out chasing down an electrical issue and was gonna remove the antenna at that time but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do so. The rear antenna is easy and makes sense, but in front with the roof panel out I can only see the manifold that is used to channel air from the roof scoop to the front vents. Is there a way to remove this so I can get to the antenna bolts? Thanks in advance. The A/C is a Mooney 20F 1975 model, serial 22-1280 N6893V. I'll be replacing the cable at the same time as well.
carusoam Posted September 1, 2018 Report Posted September 1, 2018 Flying fish, Any chance you can move your tech data over to the avatar section? Seeing if @Marauder has some PiCs and ideas in that space... Best regards, -a-

carusoam Posted September 1, 2018 Report Posted September 1, 2018 Nobody is too much a noob... we are just new around here... i’m Pretty new myself. Just re-learning how things are supposed to work. Click on your avatar and it brings you to a place to add a bunch of data... key word you are looking for... edit profile. As for asking Marauder questions... he was around here a few minutes ago... but it is getting late in his neighborhood. He just posted some pics related to wires and battery locations with his interior removed... Best regards, -a-

I own 92V. You’ll need to remove the gray plenum to get access to the antenna up front. Mine had screws and duct tape holding the front piece in place and covering the cracked plenum. Mine also had screws that attached the plenum from the outside of the plane. You can see the holes in the second photo. We riveted it back on. Once you remove the front plenum, you’ll see the 4 bolts holding the antenna on. If you have come this far, I would replace the RG-58 with RG-400. You will see that the coax is tacked to the roll cage with metal clips that have done some serious damage to mine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro 1

I will definitely be replacing with RG400 be nice to have at least one good radio lol. I don't recall seeing those screws like that... maybe duct tape was covering them. I'll have another look. Appreciate that, I usually use those off field as I've heard bad things. Will probably have my IA check my work and just do this myself to be honest. Someone quoted me like 800 dollars to install it and the wire and frankly I'm sure its a pain but no way im paying that to essentially plug in a new antenna.
Yetti Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 Another 75 F er. Yep it is under the duct tape. You will want to replace as much of the duct tape as possible with alum foil tape. Also found at Homer dan. If you are looking for a day project, there is lots of duct tape all over the cabin floor and under the rear seat and behind the side panels. It is good to get the old duct tape out at it will hold water in the deteriorated tape. The coax for the front antenna is going to run down the left (I think) column to the radio. Technically the BNC connectors should be crimped with the mil spec crimper, but if you are handy and good with a solder iron you can put them on that way. Since you are there, you may think about upgrading the Commat to a dual VHF and GPS antenna. and running more RG400 for GPS Antenna installs. I would probably run at least one extra RG400 and coil it up and tywrap it off. The back antenna runs down the left side roll cage. If you are into replacing coax. 1 1
