TonyPynes Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 i would rather work with the local broker who is also a friend but I got 1)STARR 1750(10 dual/5 solo, 2)HCC 2330(easy sign off) ......or AOPA 1592(10dual/10solo) .....now if I can make monthly payments........I always want everything for half off I guess. TonyPynes Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I think I have eliminated the HCC for $2330 which was basically a sign off only on the model. the STARR one at 1750 is 10 hours by a CFI, no sign off required the AOPA was 1592 is 10 hours by a CFI and sign off So you are right. if I feel ready after 10 but the CFI doesnt in the AOPA case I am stuck half way across the country and at their mercy unless I change CFIs. My CFI wanted to sign me off on complex at 7 hours but I insisted in two more sessions. so I should be fine but you never know. CFIs are people and there are good ones and well....you know. So taking the STARR one might mitigate that risk for just under200 dollars Quote
John Pleisse Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I am a militantly satisfied customer of Falcon and their brokerage of AIG. I have worked with P's cohert Cliff Barthoff for a number of years. These guys know insurance and GA better (sadly) than Avemco and AOPA. If you lived in this area (DC-FDK) and witnessed the lavish perks and ammenities of AOPA's association management, you would have a broader understanding why Avemco's rates correspond so ecessively. For that matter, you would question your AOPA annual membership dues. They are not in the insurance business, but the association managment business. Go with Falcon. Smart people, deeply entrenched in the Mooney and Bonanza communities, who know how to shop insurance on your behalf. Quote

John Pleisse Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Quote: danb35 I'm not aware of any arrangement between AOPA and Avemco--why would AOPA's lavishness have any impact on Avemco's rates? Quote
tony Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Every quote I have ever gotten from Avemco just makes me choke and is never even close to all the others. I have just stopped calling them when my insurance is due. I have always had good quotes from agents when chartis and AIG were the underwriter. This year I decided to use AOPA as the broker. Quote
jetdriven Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 AOPA also heavily pushes Bank of Amercia aircraft loans and they are not even close to competitive. Seriously, the more you hear about something the worse a deal it is. We are insured with Starr. Quote
