Or, you can put a shutdown link on your home page and add that to your shutdown checklist.

Hey, how do you do that?

I assume you already know how to put a link to a web page on your home screen. load the Stratux Settings page and shut it down from there.

If you tap on this link, http://192.168.10.1/shutdown, it will open. It won't do anything in your browser, but you'll be able to add it to your homescreen from there. If you run it, it won't actually show anything in your browser, but if Stratux is running, it will shut it down.

or, if you prefer, you can set it up manually.

I have a several year old P2 and the older software version from when Stratux first came out.  and the original antennas velcroed to the ceiling by the rear window.   Works great.  Never had a problem with yanking the power off a PI before.   I added the $15 USB GPS a couple of months ago and it picked it up. Droid EFB lets you select the GPS source.  Bought the AHRS chip, but have not added it to the board.

Biggest issue I have had is downloading the updated software from Stratux.   I have tried the stratux.me page and the github.

I've had people message me about the parts, so here's some more info:

There are three ways you can build one of these. First and easiest is you can buy one completely assembled, with a small markup from a number of shops online. Some have batteries, antennas, etc all ready to go. Just turn it on and fly. Just a matter of googling around. Here are two quick search results-

https://www.amazon.com/Stratux-Receiver-Aviation-Weather-Traffic/dp/B071HMQY19/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_23_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GXGXYKMA8YFQ7KZGVVK3

$250

https://www.everlastconcepts.com/products/stratux-dual-band-ads-b-and-weather-receiver-with-wass-gps-and-power-pack

$230

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The second way to get going with one of these is to buy a "kit" where it sends you all you need. This cuts down on the expense, but you'll have to assemble it all. I promise you, its not hard. There are a lot of videos on Youtube detailing them together. One of the members behind the Stratux dev team created a shop on Amazon where you can get most of the parts. This is the link to the Stratux store, which has everything you'll need. If you follow the build kit (found at www.stratux.me) it'll tell you what you need. The SD card kit will come preloaded, and the radios will come pre-assigned to their appropriate frequencies.

https://www.amazon.com/Stratux/b/ref=bl_dp_s_web_14826845011?ie=UTF8&node=14826845011&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Stratux

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The downside to this approach is that you wont have the latest stuff, which is why I went with option 3- select each component separately, and build it ad-hoc. I picked the latest SDRs which some sellers have from different stores, I chose the splitter exactly for my arrangement from a cable shop, I picked a SD card that I liked best, etc etc etc. Its the most flexible, but does require manual programming of the SDRs to tell them to listen to specific frequencies, which adds complexity, plus you need to download the latest Stratux file and manually write to the SD card. If you choose this route, there are guides on how to do programing, so again, no hard but it takes about 1.5hrs from start to finish. The upside is it will be future proof as the Nano 3 radios I've chosen are newly releases while the Nano 2s still found on the Stratux store are over a year old, but still viable.

or you could just get the Merlin from seattle avionics for 199

Which would put me $100 over what I have spent for the same functionality..... and have my CB revoked

There's a quick link on Reddit. I check it about once a week to stay on top of the discussion and see whats new

Yea, I see it is now 250 vs the 240 for the one Raptor listed.

.What you get with it is a.warranty, and are supporting a company that is big on supporting GA and the Mooney Community, including the Mooney Summit. What you dont get is the honor to say you are the Cheapest of the CB's or the satisfaction of spending a day or 2 rounding up parts, programming, and soldering.

Speaking of supporting the Mooney Summit, why not use smile.amazon.com when you buy your parts vs. the link above? just change the www to smile. The Bill Gilliland foundation will get a whopping .05% of whatever you purchase that way. Heck, we have had 3 dispursements to help Mooney pilots' families since the Mooney Summit in October already.

No Soldering involved.  It's just a couple of minutes to order and assemble.  And then you have the knowledge of how to fix it once it breaks.  But it has not.  Then I have more money to spend on relief flying and buying supplies like we did for Hurricane Harvey.  When Harvey all started,  (after driving all night back from Colorado) I told Mrs. Yetti that we were fixing to go through $10K.  She did not even bat an eye.

Maybe Mike us one of those old timers who remembers when the 1st gen AHRS chip (or was it the GPS?) required soldering. The latest collection of parts snaps together in 15-20 minutes. Of course, some folks are more inclined toward DIY than others.

The fact that you can get a 3D WAAS GPS USB dongle for $15 is what amazes me.  Yes I paid $300.00 for a 30 meg hard drive that you would not even be able to store windows 10 on.   Long live Wordstar.

The fact that the GPS has GLASNOS means that it probably is more accurate than the GPS in a Garmin 430W

So now that I ordered a $199 Merlin, guess I can sell my 1st generation P2 stratux and hopefully regain partial CB status?

and be on the "board" if you can sell it for $250 or more

I did order through my .Smile link, so I did my part. All of my shopping is through Amazon now.

Yes the integration of Russian satellites is nice. My last test with it had it down to 1-2 meters.
