I never considered the possibility that current could flow from the collector to the emitter without power to the base. A little ignorance goes a long way.

I figure I'm lucky to put together enough information (and trial and error) to get a system that really works well. Getting timers or timer circuits that delay shut off for 15 or 30 seconds is easy. One that delays for 10 to 12 minutes was a lot more difficult (at least for a non electronic guy).
