Capt_CrashN_Burn Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Since there's 3 different body styles of M20, short, medium and long, did they also change the wing design with the body? or was this done at slightly differnt times, with similar body styles with different wings? Quote

Ron McBride Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 I think that the wings are very similar from the M20B thru the TN. Probably a little beefing over time. If you study the fuselages from the M20B thru the TN, you will notice that the same construction methids were used. They did make tha cages out of thicker steel about midway thru the J production. Note, a gross weight increase then. And of course there is a gear change. But I think that there are not a lot of big changes over the years. Probably son of the MSC will know exactly what changes were made. Ron Quote
Capt_CrashN_Burn Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 So does anyone know why you can't add wingtips to the 68 G model?? Quote
1964-M20E Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 While doing a lot of reading during my search for a plane I seem to remember that on some of the late 60 models Mooney tried what was called a twisted wing. It seem that they twisted the wing tip to have a slightly less angle of attack at the wing tips. I do not think it is very noticeable unless you have the two side by side for comparison. Off course many things were twisted during the late 60’s and early 70’s but I digress. Quote

Capt_CrashN_Burn Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 Quote: Lood Do you mean fit 201 style wingtips to a G model? Of course you can, you can even get the tips with hidden comm antennas already installed. Apart from looking nice and being very expensive, they don't offer anything else, though. The twisted wing won't prevent the fitting of J wintips in any way. Look here: http://www.lasar.com/mod-details.asp?id=24 Quote
Lood Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 AFAIK, '67 & '68 models have the same wing - be it a G of F. I've seen many '67 F's with 201 style wingtips, so SWTA's statement is quite interresting. LASAR don't have any restriction or excluding of any models regarding the wingtips though. Quote

DaV8or Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 I believe the best authority is LASAR. They are the STC holder. I'm pretty sure SWTA is just a sales and installer of these wing tips. I would call LASAR for info. Quote
Lood Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Quote: DaV8or How do you know this? Do you have them? I was told explicitly by a MSC that twisted wings don't get the wing tips. In addition, it makes sense when you look at them, because the end of the wing does curve differently than the standard Mooney wing. On the other hand, I haven't asked LASAR. Quote

Capt_CrashN_Burn Posted December 10, 2010 Author Report Posted December 10, 2010 Now that the subject has come up in other threads, it does seem that there is some slight variation in Mooney wings. Someone said that the 66-67 E wings are more aerodynamicly clean. Can anyone verify this?? Quote
eldeano Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 On the Mooneyland.com website it addresses mods and his opinion seemed to be the E was the fastest. Quote

flight2000 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Quote: Capt_CrashN_Burn I did call up LASAR and I was told in no uncertian terms, the wignt tips DO NOT FIT any Mooney with a twisted wing. That would be some '67 F's and '68 G's and F's. Quote
Mcstealth Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Quote: Capt_CrashN_Burn Did he give any specific reasons?? Quote
