Retz Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 I have some oil seeping from the push rod tube seals (case side). I am going to replace the seals. Is there a trick to compressing the seal and getting the push rod tube out? I noticed that Real Gaskets sales a tool, is it worth the $41? Cheers Joe

Guest Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 You'll have to remove the rocker cover, the rocker arm and the push rod. With a long and large common screw driver you will have to push on the lip which forms the shoulder for the spring, compress the spring enough to drop the pushrod tube out of the head, slowly release the tension on the spring. To reinstall you'll need to compress the spring, the tool helps but is not required. Pass a piece of safety wire through the spring one coil from each end, slide over the tube, push the tube into a 7/8" deep socket, compress the spring and twist the wire to hold the spring compressed. Install new seals and the compression washers on the tube, put the tube back in place, cut the safety wire while holding the tube in place, remove the safety wire and reinstall the push rod, rocker arm and cover.
