ryoder Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 This Apollo SL30 is a gem. It has a feature I just found in the book. It can monitor a com channel like atis, and I use that, but it can also monitor a second vor and provide the current radial you are on. It updates it once per second. This way you can use your primary nav unit to fly the airway or ILS and simply monitor the digital display for the radial of the waypoint or intersection. I am going to use this next time I fly. Guest Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 It owes its heritage to the fine Apollo engineers before Garmin bought the company. The Apollo GX series provide useful nav data faster than my 430W. Clarence Quote
ryoder Posted February 14, 2015 Author Report Posted February 14, 2015 Yeah that is what I heard. I would like an Apollo gps if only I could get it installed on the cheap. Quote

ryoder Posted February 14, 2015 Author Report Posted February 14, 2015 Yeah I'd like one of those. The problem is usually that the avionics guy wants three thousand to install anything. I'd like something I can slap in under the supervision of my IA. Quote
N601RX Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Any ifr gps can be installed under the supervision of your IA. Quote
ryoder Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 Maybe not my IA. Id have to talk him into it. Could leave it vfr for a while too. That might make it easier. Quote
helitim Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 I recently paid $1700 for a GX60 with a Mid Continent CDI, OBS Hold switch, GPS antenna and the removed wiring. My avionics shop charged $1500 for install and then threw in a couple of other repairs at a reduced rate because he said the 60 went in quicker than he had initially estimated. It is a really good unit that provides non WAAS guidance for a very affordable investment. Having the built in Comm is really nice and saves panel space. It isn't as pretty as the touch screen units but, does a really god job for the price. Tim 2 Quote
