isaacpr7 Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Has anyone had issues with lots of slack on the trim needle? If so, what was done to fix it? Moving the trim wheel from end to end shows proper movement of the square piece attached to the threaded rod as seen inside the belly (confusing enough?). Said square piece shows no slack and the cable attached to it moves properly; however, the indicator only moves after multiple rolls of the trim wheel before it starts to move. From the full down position it only takes a few turns before moving but from the full up position it takes many more turns before needle movement.
Alhall Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 I never look at that indicator. I use the position of the control yoke, out about six inches.
Bob_Belville Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Sounds like the cable might be binding/sticking in the shielding or the clamp on the shielding might have slop. The whole mechanism is pretty crude. I had mine all apart after I bought the plane, the po never looked at the trim or the flap indicator. I have a one piece belly so when I had the plane on jacks and the belly panel off I removed the indicator, straightened everything out and adjusted the length to proper position the indicator.
N201MKTurbo Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 It sounds like you are seeing the backlash in the trim system. That backlash is in the gearbox under the trim wheel. It is harmless, but if you want it to go away, you need take apart the gearbox and shim out the end play in the worm gear. You can get shims from McMaster Carr.
