Conrad Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Hey guys, does anyone know of an A&P with Mooney experience in or near NW Arkansas? I'm looking for someone who would be willing to spot-check a PPI/annual on a '65 E, and soon. Also, does anybody have experience with John Gearhart of Twelve Stone Aviation? Basically I'm in a strange situation (I think). Twelve Stone is the regular maintainer for this plane. It is currently in their shop; they're about to start this year's annual. The seller has given me the option to take over the annual -- out of my pocketbook, which he would reimburse me for if I decided not to buy the plane. I'm comfortable with this, but it has been suggested to me that the best way to make sure that nothing is overlooked would be to hire a second mechanic to inspect the plane while it's all opened up. Does this sound reasonable? Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the area who might be willing to do it within the next week? Thanks! Conrad Quote
orionflt Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 would be a tempting reason to go visit my sister in law but my wife and I can't take the time off to make that trip right now. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 I've used John on an annual when I could not get it down to Maxwell due to weather and he is a very honest guy and good mechanic. In fact they found a few small items overlooked on previous MSC annuals. That said I would have an MSC such as Don Maxwell look it over. At the very least, a different mechanic since John has been taking care of it regularly and I believe a new set of eyes are always good. I wouldn't recommend any other of the local guys for a Mooney prebuy Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 As it is only 90 minutes to KGGG in the "E" model why not make that flight as part of your PPI? 1 Quote
Cody Stallings Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 2nd John at 12 Stone. I work with him a lot. He's a real strait shooter, an hell of a A&P ....... My 2 cents Quote
Conrad Posted October 4, 2014 Author Report Posted October 4, 2014 @ Jerry - I certainly wouldn't mind @ Cody - I love to hear the vote of confidence. Unfortunately the seller has just informed me that the plane is tentatively off the market as a change of circumstance means he might not be ready to part ways with his bird. Back to barnstormers!
