FlyDave Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 My hangar has a bit of a lip when traversing from the pavement in front of the hangar to to inside. Also, the tracks that the doors ride on are about 1" high. In addition, my hangar has a stop (piece of steel bolted to the cement) preventing my neighbor from sliding his door past the point of no return when I'm not there (see picture). I can't remove the door stop so I just have to go around it. I'm not going to try to push the nosewheel over the top of it. I'm currently putting 3 pieces of plywood down on each tire track - kind of hacky.....I have a powertow and am darn glad I do. Pushing the Bravo by hand is a bitch! I'm wondering if anyone else has build a ramp of sorts for your plane's wheels to ride over something like this. If so, how long has it lasted and what is the design/materials used? Do you have a picture? Thanks, Dave Quote
1964-M20E Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I have not built one but I imagine if you had 3 pieces of ¼” aluminum plate 24” w x 36” long bent slightly where it would rest on the tracks should work. Over time it would tend to bow from rolling on it. This would be the simplest solution. ¼” steel would hold up better but weight more about 60 lbs. each. The aluminum would be about 1/3 to ½ of that. If you are industrious and weld or have access to some who does weld you can always cut some stiffeners on an angle and weld them to the bottom of the ramps this would minimize any bowing in the aluminum. I would place about 4 of them lengthwise of the ramp leaving space for the door tracks, Cut a hand hold in the middle to make picking them up easier. Quote
MARZ Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Solid wood and cut / carve out the track profile? Quote
Piloto Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 One simple trick that I found works pretty well for hand pushing. Instead of having both main wheels crossing the tracks at the same time, angle the plane slightly to have on tire cross first before the other. I have the battery tow Robotow with dual AGM batteries. It can push back My 20J with a 100 gallons in with both tires over the tracks at the same time. I modified my Robotow by adding wheels and dual batteries. T Before I tried a wood ramp over the tracks but it has to have enough clearance for the hangar door wheels to roll over, they rot and end up jamming the doors wheels. José Quote
