Oscar Avalle Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 I just learned that JPI is offering again its software upgrade for their JPIs 730 and 830 for free through their www side. I believe for a while they charged for these upgrades about US$ 130 and you had to send your unit in. From our beach friends I learned that the upgrade changes among others how some of the bars in the unit are displayed. I have not upgraded...after my GTN experience I am sort of scared about upgrades. Here is the link. http://www.jpinstruments.com/technical-support/software-downloads/ Oscar 1 Quote
Bob - S50 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 I too am afraid because of the stories I've heard about the last update. Anybody tried it yet (brave soul)? Any idea what it changes/fixes? Bob Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 I did it finally. They changed the layout and the colors of the CHT and EGT bars. It looks more like the 900 now. The upgrade itself went well. However as a result a minor bug showed up. I will be calling JPI today and ask them what this is about. Quote
carusoam Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 Our ability to contact vendors and share their responses gets better every day. Nicely done, Oscar! Best regards, -a- Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 Yes, I agree. It is not always easy, but we should try to publish our discussions with Techsupport... I believe it helps all of us and it makes our community stronger. Quote

Oscar Avalle Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 Not yet. I will try to get over lunch time and post. Advantage of being 10 min from the hangar... 1 Quote
Marauder Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 Here goes the picture: Thanks! You have your unit in portrait mode. Mine is in landscape. Wonder how different it will look. Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 Good question. I like the fact that I can now see more parameters than before. However I don't know about the readability of the green numbers. Quote
Marauder Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 Here is mine in landscape mode. Not sure I like the green either Oscar. Sent using Tapatalk Quote
Marauder Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 Oh, BTW -- I'm jealous of your 87 degree temps! It's still cold here! Sent using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Report Posted April 29, 2014 Yeah the 87 are nice! The average temperature here is min 69 and max 78. Indeed really nice. I don't know what I am going to do when I have to move or return to DC. 1 Quote

Marauder Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 Hey Oscar! I just noticed something. Your MP is at 25.6". Why is it so low? Quote
BigTex Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 The real question is why's he running at 13.0 GPH! Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Report Posted April 29, 2014 The real question is why's he running at 13.0 GPH! This is Maurader's JPI. his picture was taken while he was flying and consuming 13.0 GPH... ask him... Hey Oscar! I just noticed something. Your MP is at 25.6". Why is it so low? My field elevation is 5000 feet and temperature was in the high 90, density altitude was about 8000 feet. 1 Quote
Marauder Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 The real question is why's he running at 13.0 GPH! Because the k factor was wrong! The unit was installed a couple months earlier and I hadn't updated the k factor to the correct fuel flow. Sent using Tapatalk 1 Quote
carusoam Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 That explains why the F is faster than that other guy's J! Missile conversion? Best regards, -a- Quote

jrp Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Folks, Very interested in this upgrade as well. My 830 is in portrait mode and I'd like to have more parameters visible. Does this update allow that? I've downloaded the update from JPI and spoke with them today, but they indicate this is a minor update and will have it run more efficiently ... no mention of display change. JP Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 I flew today with the new upgrade. It seems that there is a problem with it. I am getting an error message regarding the impossibility to save the config file..... However, the unit works otherwise well. Will call them and see what they tell me. Quote
Marauder Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Oscar - thanks for keeping us posted on this. I'm one of those crazy guys who wants the latest and greatest software. Glad I didn't rush into this. How are the new colors working out? Sent using Tapatalk Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 Yes, I am the same... but I never learn my lesson... I like the colors! They read better then the previous ones. Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted May 8, 2014 Author Report Posted May 8, 2014 Emailed JPI today. I have not tried their suggested solution (I am going to ask my avionics guy to do it). But here is the response: Hi Oscar, Please try a Factory Reset. You can accomplish this by powering up the EDM and tapping the step button a few times to get it to cycle through the pages. HOLD both buttons at the same time until you see “PROGRAM”. You are now in the program menu. Tap the STEP button until you see “END ? Y”. HOLD both buttons again and you will now see “FAC LIM”. And a prompt that says “FAC ? N”. This is the Factory Reset question. Save your k-factor for the fuel flow transducer and any other programmable parameters by following the attached document procedure before doing the reset. If this does not fix your problem you will have to send the unit in for evaluation. Before sending the unit in you will need to: Please contact Julie@jpinstruments.com or call (800) 345-4574 for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number. This number must be written on the outside of the box. Please have the following information ready before calling/emailing for an RMA number: EDM type-i.e. EDM-700, 800, 930 etc. EDM Serial Number. Aircraft Registration or N-number. Your full contact/shipping information. Reason for the return and person in technical support you contacted for basic troubleshooting. Typical turn around times are 5-7 business days. Loaners, if available require a credit card charge of $500 refundable when you return the unit.
