Hector Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Anyone has a PIREP on FBOs at KOPF (Opa-Locka Executive near Miami). Have not been there in close to 20 years. Usually fly into KTMB when I go down there but for this trip KOPF is more convenient. I see at least one FBO has fuel at close to $11 per gallon !! I'll be there for close to 3 days. Mike A Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 I fly down there regularly for work and use Fontainebleau. It's $20/night,1st night waived with 10 gal purchase and they run the SS pump. If you have some flexibility, North Perry (KHWO) may offer a little better deal on gas and parking and is 6 miles north. Quote
PMcClure Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 There is a small FBO on the field that has limited services but cheaper fuel. I used them and liked them. I can't remember the name, sorry. Fuel was EXPENSIVE in S. Florida! Quote

PMcClure Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 My theory on S. Florida gas prices is the following: If you have a plane in south Florida and you need gas, you have very limited options. So they hit you hard. The geography limits the competition. When I go, I fill up at home base and even plan a fuel stop before getting into Miami. Then I pay the stupid ramp fees in Miami and leave with no fuel purchase. @ $11/gallon, that is $980 fill up in my Mooney and $1100 in the Bonanza! Or $550 more than the typical FBO. I usually try to purchase fuel everywhere I land but when you get a "Screw You" place, I return the favor. Quote

Thanks Mike. Looks like Fontainebleau may be my best bet. Gas is $7.18 which is not too horrible. I have a good friend that owns a business right next to the airport. If I fly there he'll give me a company car for the weekend so it saves on rental car and I get to spend some time with him. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Quote
