Seth Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 After my plane being down for annual and the horrible weather this winter, I finally was able to conduct an IPC as when March 1st hit, I went out out of currency. Touched down at BWI this morning as part of a touch and go on the second approach. Only used half flaps as it was a long runway and the approach was pretty stable - also, this way I didn't have to adjust flaps for the takeoff. For thefinal landing of the day, I used full flaps. I don't normally conduct touch and go's in the Missile, but I thought this one out and decided with the instrutor there, go for it - also, I wanted to touch down at BWI I usually don't take off before dawn, but it was a great early morning flight and I may be making a trip later this week so I needed the IFR currency. It was about half and half night vs day flight this morning. -Seth 2 Quote
Hank Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Congratulations! I may be needing an IPC if I don't fetch my plane down here soon . . . Did one at the Niagara PPP even though I didn't have to. It was actually pleasant, including the 2400 x 40 field for a simulated engine out. There's something to be said for learning and being based at small fields, it makes many more places accessible without excessive worry. Maybe I'll visit Class B sometime, but the nice folks in Charlotte and Atlanta vector me around. Quote
carusoam Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 You're gonna need a BFR if you wait too long Hank... Best regards, -a- Quote
Marauder Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 I have actually made IPCs part of my normal training regiment. Find that over the years I either correct a bad habit or learn something new. Especially true since I am now flying behind glass. Sent using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Hank Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 You're gonna need a BFR if you wait too long Hank... Best regards, -a- No worries there, I've only been down here a month. My last approaches, however, were in September. I was set to go out at the end of January and get current, and the dad blame valve stem on a main tire went bad--air would come out but not go in. It's been replaced, but too late to fly before heading out. Quote

Since I earned my IFR Rating in 2009 I've had a few IPC's when the weather is too nice or I'm unable to get a certain number of approaches in. Simply getting the IPC once a year or so is not a bad idea at all. -Seth Quote
