I was thinking about the future of airshows last week while at Wings over N. Georgia. Was cruising along with my 14 yr old daughter and remembering how it was very easy to go and see the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels and now they are setting more than flying because of reasons we ought not dredge up. Anyhow, I was wondering how many times there is an aviation event that we as Mooney Drivers fly to seperately and never meet. Makes me wonder if there was a schedule on the site for all airshows and we looked at them maybe we could say which ones we would be attending and maybe meet up or park together. I know last weekend I missed out on meeting several of the Mooney Drivers that were at Rome. There is another airshow near Charlotte next month and I'm thinking about flying to that one if work and life/home schedule permits. Here is a link to a site that lists lots of airshows world wide.

I found the app for this site while browsing for aviation stuff when I first got my phone:

More than just airshows, goes down to breakfasts, poker runs, etc.

It pisses me off I didn't make it to the WoG airshow. I was IN THE AIR and had to turn back because I don't have an instrument rating. Dammit.

Encountered IMC in flight. I'm not sure what's not to get.

It was just valley fog, probably and it probably burned off soon after I turned around. But about 20 miles SE of HSV, I encountered a layer that had cumulus at 5000, and and I couldn't see the ground underneath. Not knowing how far it went, and not being able to see over it, I decided not to risk it. That, and when I opened my flight plan, the guy said "IMC along route of flight".

Yes, we had some valley fog at Rome...see in my post that in fact fog covered the southern half of the airport, but we were landing VFR from the north. So go figure.

That Saturday trip was the best justification I've seen in awhile for in cockpit weather. By being able to see the METARs for all surrounding airports, it was pretty obvious that even if Rome had been socked in, we could have circled for awhile or just landed at another airport and waited.  Sorry that we missed a few of you who had more challenging conditions!
