gwcolwell Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Taking wife to Pennsylvania for a couple of days for sightseeing and hotel sex. Any suggestions? Where to land? Motels? Rental cars? Thought about landing in YORK (KTHV) and renting a car. Travel to Lancaster for a day, then the Gettysburg area for a day. Comments? Suggestions? Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I would suggest to land in Lancaster itself. Nice airport nice hotels etc. Also rental cars are available on the field. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 KLNS has reasonable self serve fuel. At least as of last year. Looks like current is $5.97, not so great. Quote

John Pleisse Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 LNS is the best facility. The Kitchen Kettle Village is a good gateway to the Mennonite experience. Also the Strausburg Railroad. LNS has a great pilot shop (Joepilot.com), restaurant and a Mooney Service Center, all walkable on the tarmac (you'll need to trespass through Armstrong floors corporate lot). Also, check to see if there are any great concerts at Hershey Park (45 mins away). Smoketown is right in the heart of Amish country, east of LNS. There are actually hitching posts for buggies in front of the convenience store across from the airport. You could also land in Gettysburg. There is a small field near the city W05. Take a cab into town. Last I landed, the runway was a little bumpy, not much transient parking and the field joined a trailer park. The good news is, if you are a Civil War buff or have any interest, you could spend a week there. It really is amazing and presented first class. York, while seemly central on your sectional, really isn't. The city basically has no bypass. In the main stretch through town, you could wait 2 cycles at every traffic light on a Saturday morning, just to take the 30 minute drive over to Lancaster, then the Amish attractions are on the east side of LNS, adding to your trip. I would choose either LNS or W05. The best attraction in York is the Harley Davidson Factory. 1 Quote

Mikey30V Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Pennsylvania!!!!! Get a rope........ No, you "get a rope" for New York City (NEW YORK CITY???), at least according to the old Pace picante sauce commercials. Out east of Lancaster is the Strasburg Railroad and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, should you be electro-mechanically inclined. Quote
