Having trouble with my Stec 55x Autopilot in my J. Havent done any trouble shooting but all ideas are considered helpful. When in nav gpss mode or nav alone it doesnt follow my Gps flight plan anymore. It just wonders off on its own and also when I select Hdg it doesnt follow my bug either. In Alt and Vs mode it works but thats it. On start up the internal check shows no faults but it might be checking the control face itself and not the servos or maybe its just a electrical check to everything. Any ideas? Hoping my roll servo is not the fault..

So I had an STEC-30 installed about a year ago - it worked perfectly, and I loved it. I then had my plane treated with ACF-50 a few months ago. Last weekend my altitude hold stopped working- the Alt hold light comes on when I try to engage it, but it does nothing - i.e. no trim alarms etc. So I took it to the avionics shop today. They said that they found a ton of gunk inside the elevator servo that looked like the anti-corrosion material settling out into it. I feel like I'm being punished for trying to take care of my plane. My avionics shop spent hours removing and cleaning up the servo and got it working again. On the way home this evening it initially worked fine and then quit working. Again! It seems like they would want to protect such components in the tail when applying the corrosion spray. I'm not going to accuse the well known shop that did the corrosion treatment of anything - nothing good would come of it. This post is really just a primal scream to help me cope with the vicissitudes of aircraft ownership. Of course I'm call the avionics shop again in the am. However I am also curious if anyone has had similar experiences and/or ideas on how to resolve the issue.

This is a factory fresh S-Tex ST-901 unit, p/n 03976, with an 8130. It was repaired by S-Tec and has not been used or installed since. My understanding is that they replaced both circuit boards in the unit. It comes with (appears to be new) panel mounted annunciator, p/n 03975, that switches between heading and GPSS mode. It also comes with the connectors. It is setup for the King KCS 55A. Will sell complete for $950 plus shippingCall or text Brian at 319-560-4910 or email me at brianweber@ Foxtrot Mike Tango Charlie Sierra dot com with questions or for more info. I know this is my first post on Mooneyspace which might make a prospective buyer nervous but I'm much more active on Beechtalk and Piperforum. I have 100% positive feedback on eBay for hundreds of motorcycle and airplane parts. My tail numbers are N69PS and N201JR.

STEC 30A oscillating; 1/2 standard rate turns
Piotrekpdx posted a topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I'm close to purchasing a nice 65 M20E. I took it for a test flight with an instructor today (the owner lost his medical) and when we engaged the STEC 30 AP with Alt hold, it didn't perform as I expected. In wing leveler mode, it would rock left and right every 20 seconds or so. In heading mode it would only turn at half standard rate. What's the range, as far as repair/service cost, I should expect to get it fixed? Any advice is very appreciated. -
Good Afternoon I have a 2007 Mooney Ovation 3 with a G1000/STec 55X installation. Does anyone know if you can use the flight director on the G1000 WITHOUT the autopilot engaged? I have seen aircraft with FD AP buttons to separate the functions but can not find anything in the POH or the AutoPilot supplement / handbook. Also, Is there a way to upgrade the STec to allow Indicated Airspeed Hold (IAS) instead of vertical airspeed (VS) hold during climbs and descents. Thanks for any advice..... Mike N871TX

Does anyone have this autopilot add on in their aircraft and what do you think of them? Are they worth adding this to a Century llB to increase the usability?
