  1. This is SO strange. I have had everything closed since I began this adventure. When I did as you suggested, I got this; When I jumped back to Tapatalk to look at the thread, I came back to WingX to find this; Another thing I know from my other apps is that the cycle is due. So, I went in to update it and now get this; Oh, evil spirits...
  2. And what is that fluid underneath it? It does look like the brake master. Wonder if it is leaking and that is why he is asking.
  3. Personally I think my iPad is revolting. I have ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot and Xavion already loaded. I think it is trying to get back at me for pushing it's RAM. I haven't surrendered yet, but I am certainly looking for the white flag.
  4. I will look back at the Hilton videos to see if they have one on route planning. They certainly have ones like "crash investigation" but they should have spent more time on how to use it. The route planning has been frustrating since it is not intuitive and it looks like you need to know the waypoints before you can flight plan. I tried the webplan tool and it sent me to places I would never file. I'm not one to give up on technology, but this one is sure beating the crap out of me.
  5. That was the first step I did when I loaded the ap. I do get the maps, sometimes, but not always. Very strange. I will go back and check it again.
  6. There are a number of factors that go into setting these numbers correctly. My Mooney spreadsheet contains a direct operating cost that tallies up hourly maintenance (figure this to be oil changes and misc. repairs outside of the annual), the cost of the annual over the year's flying, engine reserve (not sure what a C rebuild cost is, but a fuel injected runs from the mid 20s into the 30s depending on shop, level of accessory replacement, etc.), prop (I think was in the $1500 - $1700 range), insurance (you should be in the ballpark depending on the coverage limits) and don't forget about avionics repairs, updates (databases for GPSs) and upgrades. When you put this all in a spreadsheet, you then close it and never look at it again. Why? Simply because the kind of money you are putting into this endeavor can never be justified for personal usage AND you certainly don't want any paper trail letting your better half to know what you have been up to!
  7. Sorry Don for the hijack!
  8. Hi Jim - Mike has been trying to guide me through this as well. Maybe I have a "broken" version of the app, but I don't always get a map. Take a look at this screen shot. Why am I am not seeing a map? I also tried going into the menu and doing it from the route planning screen. But it looks like you start there and then need to go back to the main map (which doesn't always exist) to edit it. I thought it would be easier or at least as easy as the other apps. Something is not right...
  9. YW! You want to have real fun? Try figuring out how to enter a route in WingX. I think I will use up my 30 day trialware version just figuring that out. At least FF and Garmin Pilot are somewhat intuitive.
  10. Looks like you spread you money around well. Too bad you couldn't have gotten the GPSS steering as well.
  11. Yep. In cruise. I never looked at it before and only did when I saw your thread. I definitely do not lose trim up capability on landing though. Still have quite a bit trim up left.
  12. Alan -- on my F I never lose "nose up" trim but I do wonder about "nose down" trim. When I have the STEC engaged with autotrim, the trim indicator is pegged all the way down. When I land, I am about an indicator width (with the bottom of the indicator as reference) up. Here is a picture of my Mooney with the AP engaged and the trim set by the AP. Is this normal?
  13. An F would give you extra room, no doubt. But I think you would begin starting to see some trade-offs in condition and equipment for the price range you are looking at.
  14. An even stronger point is what paint was used? Mike and Alan have seen my paint job. I will need to look at my logs, but I think it was painted in the early 80s using AlumiGrip paint. Although I don't have the shine as others, my paint is continuous without bare spots on the leading edges or signs of wear.
  15. My favorite is "Cessna 1234A, departing northwest bound, LAST CALL". I don't know whether to order another beer or go to the guy's funeral!
  16. I hate everything! Can we stop now? This was much more fun when we were just talking about 201er's inflatable dolls and how much pressure they could hold.
  17. Prices if you don't mind...
  18. At Smoketown? It is under new management. They quoted my $12k for my Mooney a couple of months ago. The airport was bought by a guy name Horst. His son Kendall runs the paint shop.
  19. Cool just remember the forum rules. No pictures, it NEVER happened!
  20. Ok, I'm back! I ran out to the kitchen and made another bag of popcorn. What did I miss?
  21. It could be worse... I listened for 10 minutes inbound on KGED Unicom to a pilot that was telling his passenger (and the rest of the world due to his stuck mic) all about how fast his Piper was.
  22. Hi Aaron -- I have been doing some research in this area as well. If you go the Zaon path, let us know how it works out. ANY direction we head is going to cost a bunch.
  23. Here is what it looks like. It has an electric start on it. I need to redo the cables and work on the engine. In my shed I have the front end Piper bracket. Any suggestions?
  24. Somewhere back in my horse trading days I came to own a Gettelman Lug Bug Model 200. I never used it because it was configured for a Piper and my hangars were always flat and easy to get in. Now that I am based at an airport that has a nice hump at the entrance, I'm thinking about getting this gizmo working. My Google searches found Mr. Gettelman who passed away a few years back at the ripe old age of 96. The searches revealed that the company was sold to a Mr. Lohman who bought it in 1980 and retired from it in 1991. He subsequently was killed in an aviation accident in 1993: http://www.eaa.org/apps/obituaries/MemorialWall2.aspx?ID=971 Then the trail goes cold. I can't find any trace of the company. Did it get bought and a name change? Did it go away? I am trying to find parts to convert it over to a Mooney configuration. Anyone know anything about this company and product?
