  1. When you fly IFR you are in positive control, so things like altitude limits of airspace tend to be forgotten.
  2. LOL! Because he is planning on making it a weekend getaway with his wife silly!
  3. He does bring that out in people. I was in a sales meeting this morning and a sales manager asked this "what angle do we want to attack this market?" -- and Mike immediately popped into my head! He's everywhere!
  4. Hmmm... I'm wondering now. Floats at New Garden, floats at Orange County. Maybe he is flying his AoA or maybe his ASI is off...
  5. You missed a firsthand demonstration of this technique at N57. The answer is simple. A really LOOOOONNNNGGGG time.
  6. I'm game depending on the date.
  7. Finally had a chance to watch it. Nice! Also nice to see what that part of the country looks like from the air. Never made it up to the northwest -- yet...
  8. And so was Alan's Bonanza -- but I would never admit that to him in person...
  9. Sorry for the slight hijack. Anyone know why video links are no longer showing up in Tapatalk? I suspect Mark is sharing a video, but I see nothing.
  10. Since we are now exploring the dark side of this thread, one thing I will never eat again before a flight is chili. It makes for a toxic environment...
  11. Robert - weather is one of those things in aviation where the more you know and more importantly, the more you understand, the better you understand the risks. And it is easy to get complacent, especially if you got lucky in the past. On Monday I was scheduled to pick up my Mooney from an airport that is 25 miles away from my home airport. A flight I have done probably a hundred times over the past 18 years. The weather in the morning was beautiful and the TAFs looked good through the afternoon. I knew I would not be able to get out there until mid afternoon and if I had relied on this morning DUATS briefing solely, I would have tangled with pop up thunderstorms during my short flight. By the time early afternoon rolled around, the TAFs were updated and now reflected potential TS activity. Looking at other available weather tools in the morning with my DUATS briefing, I had already called my mechanic in the morning and told him I would be out there later in the week. He called me in the afternoon to tell me that they had a strong storm come through with hail and that my plane was safe in their hangar.
  12. Thanks Hank! I have been making home videos for a while and my family takes them for granted. Appreciate the new audience. I thought it was interesting as well to see the differences in take-offs. Mike flies a pretty flat profile and others seem to gain altitude more aggressively. Also noticed people had different timing on stowing the gear.
  13. Your take-off is on my HQ camera, at least I hope it is. With any luck, they can repair it without reformatting the internal camera memory.
  14. Did the Newark controller take you right over runway 22 and then tell you to fly to the Statue of Liberty? Your airport must be a lot of fun during rush hour. Nice video!
  15. I have never run mine dry in the 21 years I have owned them or I would know for sure. I thought the bladder interconnects would have been slightly above the bottom of the bladder and resulted in a bit of unusable fuel. Guess not.
  16. I thought that was the reason most guys learned to fly -- so they didn't need to take their wives with them My wife likes to fly. If my wife didn't like to fly, I think I would have a difficult (notice I didn't say "hard") time taking a woman flying on a regular basis married or not.
  17. Ray - you have several options. I agree KPNE & KPHL would work but you will pay a bunch. KLOM, KOQN and N57 (my airport) are options. Delaware Express Shuttle (http://www.delexpress.com/) will pick up at New Garden (N57) and may pick up at Brandywine (KOQN). I would see if they do Convention Center runs directly. If not, I would take the shuttle to the PHL airport and take a taxi to the Convention Center. I would be surprised if there aren't shuttle services to the Center from the PHL airport.
  18. Robert -- Tom has provided you some insights into the world of cross country flying. You bought a plane that was designed to do long trips. You didn't buy a trainer designed to get you your PPL. What that means to you is that you will need to become a student of weather like most of us did who wanted to get utility out of our airplanes. Whether you are VFR or IFR rated, you need to understand the variables associated with the ever changing environment we are in -- the weather. Learn how to read the skew-t, prog charts and other tools that are at your disposal. Even if you go out and get your IFR rating, that doesn't mean you still won't fly into the side of a CB. You need to understand what Mother Nature is tossing your way and be man enough to know when she is the boss.
  19. Usually within a minute, two max. Depends a lot on GPS signal acquisition (i.e. full view of the sky). Did you have a GPS before? If so, did they re-use your antennae?
  20. From the O&N site: The NEW 64-GALLON KIT consists of eight bladders, four in each of the wet-wing bays. Until now, M20F and M20J owners sacrificed 9.2 gallons of useable fuel in order to install the O&N bladder system. So, if my math is correct, I have 54.8 usable. Add in the 9.2 from above, then you have 64 usable. So they need to be able to hold a bit more, right?
  21. Oh, BTW, mine were installed in 1992. So I have the flush caps.
  22. You got me thinking Bob. My tanks hold 27.4 per side confirmed by the fuel gauge markings. But is that usable? If it weren't raining so hard here, I would go get my POH and see what the supplement says.
  23. Nice video. Funny seeing a single engine prop in that line of jets. "Number 10 for departure" was pretty funny.
  24. That RAM air opening is something... Something I wouldn't want. Looks like someone puckering up for a kiss.
