  1. I am investigating putting a mount on my yoke for my Ipad mini however, I do have the original analog clock in the middle. Any suggestions about how to keep usage of this clock? Or do guys just stop using it when the Ipad is there? Yves
  2. I believe you are right. If I recall right, you could ear on an FM radio AM signals but they sound very weak (You need to crank the volume) due to the amplitude limiters. My brother also has a VE2 license and this is why I would like to have a unit that can do both so I could chat with him legally when he is on the ground. Unless things have changed that I do not know about, amateur radio gear does not need any specific certification except for the fact that they need to have the equivalent stability of a piezo-electric reference. Yves
  3. Does anyone know if there is any available handheld that would cover both the vhf aviation band AND the ham 2 meters band? I have not used my ham radio license for years however this could be an opportunity. Yves
  4. Justement Pierre, je serai à Lachute ce week-end, l'avion s'en va chez roger pour une peinture... Yves
  5. About your procedure: Cold Start: Master on, Fuel pump on, then off (green arc), then 7 pumps of throttle, 1/4inch then ... Are you sure that you pump while the fuel pump is off? Here I pump when it is on then turn it off. I am in Canada and the most pumps I would do is 6 however I would always pre-heat when the temp is below 32 F. Yves
  6. Salut Pierre, je vais de temps-en-temps dans la zone du terminal de Montréal habituellement Mascouche. L'indicatif est C-FQKM. Ton avion est basé à quel endroit? Je suis à Ottawa. Yves
  7. Thank you fantom. The bird is getting in for this in a week. I am pretty sure that the shop would be aware of this however better be safe than sorry. I will ask questions about this. Yves
  8. fantom, I spent some time searching for this following your comment and no luck. After searching for "paint stripper" or "stripper" it did not return a thread that would discuss "spare stripper" Yves
  9. Chap, could you elaborate on what you mean by "spare the stripper"? My bird will get repainted soon and I would not want to get in the same situation as you did. Any specific directives I shall tell the painter assuming he does not have too much Mooney knowledge? Thanks. Yves
  10. Thanks guys for all your inputs. The curing would take 4 Days according to my mechanic and due to that big weather system coming (from you guys), I decided to wait before retrieving the aircraft back. I will put some fuel in the sealed thank however not Full. Yves
  11. Would you have the link? I tried but was unsuccessful locating this thread.
  12. No I have not... and this is why I am asking for opinions before I attempt this and break my neck. I'll try to compute how much weigth I would need in the right seat (of course the empty wing is the right hand side one !!) to help compensate for this. If this is too risky, I will just change my plans. Yves
  13. Hi guys, Did anyone ever fly their Mooney with one tank full (or almost full) and the other one empty? One of my two tanks just got a re-seal and will sit in a hangar for some time so I thought I should wait to re-fuel (allowing it more cure time). I need to ferry the aircraft to that another location where it will stay put. My plan is to fill the tank 75% full max on the side that did not get touched which will provide me enough time to get where I need to go. Is there any risk fuel could travel to the empty tank? Aircraft is an M20C 1965. Fuel selector does not have both... it is either left or right. I need to know if anyone did something like this and how the aircraft behaved? Thanks. Yves C-FQKM
  14. Hey Bill, We have similar paths but not in the same order. Was college electronic professor for 7 years, IBM Software (Rational) division for 10 years and now full time consultant! Yves
  15. I do not think there is enough isolation between the speaker and the outside in order to allow ANR for the Halos. I use cheap sets for now but this thread will definitely educate me for when I am ready to change them. Yves C-FQKM
  16. Software Quality Analyst and business owner. Dad was an airport manager... so was raised on an airfield. :-)
  17. I believe most flyers here would use airpeed indication for their approach. Not to be a spoiler, check this video where Chuck Yaeger talks about the AOA instrument. Of course he is from another era. http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=mcbMm5ArrlQ Check around 2:00 minutes in the video. Thanks for the insight about AOA. Yves
  18. Carusoam: My quote about the instructor was probaly not best worded... here is another way to describe this: By always setting my approach speed in such a way that the airspeed indicator would have the needle perfectly horizontal, It seems I was always at the right approach speed in normal landing configuration, regardless of the aircraft type I was flying. i do not recall where I learned this however I will do a bit of a research to find out if there is anything on this on he net. This might be from reading one of the tens of aviation books I read in the last few years. Yves C-FQKM
  19. Bill what does ROTC mean? Yves
  20. Byron, you have always impressed me with your flying knowledge (flying stuff, maintenance, the large birds etc.) so here is something your above answer makes me believe that you are not aware of: There is no need to know the approach speed numbers for any production aircraft; The approach speed is always the airspeed that is indicated when the needle is exactly horizontal... for any airplane. Now don't ask me for my source or if this is with flaps or not cause I do not remember the details. I always used that rule in Mooney's or Cessna's and never got any shit from any instructor. Yves C-FQKM
  21. McStealth, Please send my thanks to your dad for sharing this. I am actually one who flies Mooneys today due to my Dad. I will share more on this with you on another post... Regards, Yves C-FQKM
  22. Christian, ça va être difficile. There are probably not too many pilots around your place who have the same budget, wants to fly IFR, would feel comfortable with a small cabin, would agree not to have a door on the left etc. I was looking at finding one near Ottawa last year and finally decided to settle with a bit less airplane for now. I will upgrade it at my pace (which is actually different than my wife, and you can ask me who wants to spend more .. this would be a surprise) Yves C-FQKM
  23. Had ten inches of snow around Christmas time and no tipping. Tires looked flat due to weigth. Yves
  24. JimR, what orientation shold the filament be to make it last longer? For my M20C, the connecting lugs usually go bad before the filament. Yves C-FQKM
  25. Carusoam, what MSC are you talking about? I do not get much water. Actually the last time I had significant water was several years ago. I did get trouble getting the caps out last week due to frozen water. Yves C-FQKM
