  1. Nobody can or nobody is? You can’t buy new cylinders? I am not sure I follow you here.
  2. They can’t buy new cases or cylinders?
  3. This is key. The thread seems to be talking about two things. Quality of parts and quality of build. The best engine builder cannot make an IO360 work with connecting rods made out of bamboo. Conversely the finest connecting rod known to man is of no use to a milkman. The factory rebuild doesn’t really bring anything to the party for the $$, except resale. There is a subset of uneducated buyers that will pay for it.
  4. Never have truer words been written. Edit: I have no idea why it is dropping the resolution it’s only a 3.2MB pic
  5. I don’t. He wrote a legal brief. @jlunseth wrote common sense. Both are correct. One came before the other, was correct, and where I stopped.
  6. I am surprised I had to scroll the far, well said.
  7. Here are a whole bunch of thoughts.
  8. The crew of AA965 would disagree. Automation will do what you ask it to. The more automation you have the more potential to have it do something unintended.
  9. Mistakes are what kill people. Instead of twisting 500FPM you accidentally twist 5000 and look at your iPad and it potentially becomes a bad day.
  10. Electric trim tends to come with adding up/down to the mix. Personally I like altitude and heading hold, up/down I prefer myself. It just takes a small typo or twist if a knob and it becomes a bad day.
  11. I have had planes outside for years. The hangar makes it easier to work on and store stuff. For what my hangar costs I could get the plane repainted every five years.
  12. I have flown both. For a Mooney set gear/power/trim at IAF and it just follows itself down. Take off and trim it follows the speed you want (I climb 120mph IAS with no issue with just a little trim wheel). Saves you money on install, maintenance, and most importantly safety. Runaway trim, setting to climb at 160kts to FL250, etc. are what kill you. I am a huge fan of 2 axis automation in GA but personally I don’t think we are there yet on 3 axis. History has also proven the third axis to be what kill you.
  13. I rode in the baggage compartment in my 50’s, your kids will fit just fine.
  14. https://a.co/d/cetPIVZ These are a must for #2. I just use the back of the hanger door for #1. The Mrs M20F uses a bucket with a seat for #1 and I just dump/wash it out.
  15. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should…
  16. The legal chain, not the supply chain.
  17. The amount of money wasted on cylinders in aviation is amazing. If I knew what I was doing I would just start selling cylinders. It seems to be about the only way to get rich in aviation.
  18. Nice strawman. Yes all things are possible. It is significantly easier to toast an inducted engine.
  19. I have used a weather forecasting stone for years. When I travel, I use the pebble version. Works great.
  20. Less is more, why I like the G5.
