  1. Tom, consider removing the co-pilot seat to make it easier for your Dad to get in and out ....assuming he doesn't mind sitting in the back. It's made a big difference for my wife. Ray
  2. I just got one of the Klixon switch covers 3D printed from Shapeway. It took a bit of pressure, but it did snap on and the switch works. The surface is not smooth as others have noted, but not an issue for me as I intend to label the panel, not the switch cover. My switch covers are a mix of various vintages that don't match, so short of buying all new switches, this will have to do. I'm just glad I have a cover on switch. Ray
  3. There is a very informative e-book by the late Richard Zephro. It may be available at the Mooneyland website.

    Very nice!
  5. +1 on John Miller at Crystal Avionics in New Braunfels TX, he did my panel upgrade which included a GDL 88, very nice work. PM me if you have any questions. Ray
  6. If it makes you feel any safer, there is a Coast Guard Station at Traverse City KTVC right at the airport.
  7. I crossed a couple of weeks ago from Traverse City at 8K ft. It was 22 minutes from coast to coast. I wear the life vest while crossing..don't want to be searching and fussing if things go bad...I'll be busy enough. I wa on an IFR felt plan, so it should be on flightaware.com. N226C Ray
  8. Gemini Aviation bought Dugosh and several of the crew stayed. They did my last annual....very thorough, and they still have the Dugosh name as well as Gemini. They moved to different hangars at Kerrville, but still at KERV.
  9. I live near San Antonio. Dugosh in Kerrville is pretty close, Chuck Reynolds at Boerne Stage (5C1) does lots of Mooney PPIs, Ron Fisher at Kestral (1T7) is as knowledgable as anyone about all models of Mooney. PM me if I can be of help. The usual mantra is to have a shop other than the one that has been maintaining the plane do the PPI. But, if any of the above or Maxwell in Longview did the maintenance, you may want to get their advice on where to take it for the PPI. Ray
  10. Peter, Are you referring to the MAPA article on the 231 or the 252? Both have comparisons on performance, efficiency, and costs compared to a J. The 252 goes 191kts at 17K....that's pretty fast.
  11. If your mission does not include going up high over weather or mountains then get a J. The Missle is another question because the extra horsepower down low makes it a sort of a mini Ovation (in a J fuselage length). I fly into Albuquerque in all seasons, and being able to climb over the mountains on a hot day helps me. I don't mind the oxygen and higher is faster. I have a K....that fits on my mission. There is an e-book by the late Richard Zephro called "those Mooney Airplanes". It will help you sort out the attributes of each of the models and match you to the right Mooney for you. The book may still be available at the Mooneyland website.
  12. Who did the interior?
  13. Nice!
  14. Thanks Don, I'll call the shop back on Monday.
  15. Sweet paint job!
  16. Got it solved, here is the whole story. If you have both the GDL 88 and the 330 ES, only one can send the ADS-B out signal. My system was initially configured so that the GDL 88 was the out source. When the G500 7.0 update was done, they switched the source to the 330 ES, but that requires a hard wire connection from the GPS, 430W in my case, to the 330 ES. It should be no problem, and up until a week ago, I was sending my ADS-B out data via the GDL 88. The FAA requests the data come from the 330 ES if possible, and Garmin gave my shop a heads-up recently. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Ray
  17. I'll try that in the morning, thanks. My reading of the book led me to believe that it automatically defaulted to "on" at start up. I'll give it a shot since it needs to go to the shop for the ELT update next week anyway. Thanks. Ray
  18. FIS-B now appears on the set-up page and I get a radar image on the G500. It appears that all this time, my 330ES has not been sending my ADS-B out data. Clearly, the transponder has been sending out my location and altitude but after a long call with Garmin, I have to take the plane back to the shop......when my avionics guy gets back from Hawaii.....it's always something. How do you view the METARs off the G500? I can see the symbols on the screen and activate the cursor and move it over a location but then nothing when I hit enter? I've poured over the G500 book and spoken to their rep, but you guys seem to be the best info. Ray
  19. I clicked yes on the update and the new NAV data dates now appear on start-up. That's resolved.
  20. Set-up shows FIS as input for weather and traffic, but no weather (radar or Metar) shows up. Set-up previously showed TIS as traffic input, so the shop did change the input when they installed 7.0. I do get a new message when I turn on the master asking if I want to update my aviation data. I updated my NAV data after the 7.0 update. Do I need to click yes to this question? It automatically defaults to the old data if I do nothing. The Avionics shop is supposed to call me about my ELT later, so I'll keep you posted on the issue. Thanks for all the input.
  21. I'll go back out today, the book is with the plane. It may be installed properly but I need to switch to ADS-B weather and it showed nothing because the G500 has no XM input. The 330ES has a very simple pamphlet and I'll need to look into why the "no ADS-B" symbol appears. I know I have to be at altitude, but that should have been fine above/near San Antonio. Thanks for your help. Ray
  22. For some reason, the weather pages open but show nothing? Also the 330ES shows no ADS-B symbol. I flew to 5500 ft north of San Antonio. I'll check the avionics Shop next week. Prior to the 7.0 upgrade, ADS-B traffic and weather showed on my small 430W screen, and TIS traffic showed on the G500. I used XM weather on my G696 and was getting ready to consider dropping my subscription but now I'll wait until this gets sorted out. Ray
  23. G500 owners/users, I just got the 7.0 upgrade and have a GDL 88 and 330ES. What's the buttonology for seeing ADS-B weather on the G500? The ADS-B traffic showed up automatically. I did the NAV data update that is required also. My avionics guy is on vacation and I didn't ask when I picked up the plane. ...I'll likely fly today and can play with the buttons.....maybe even read the book. D-Day recognition ceremony today then off to the airport...Texas in the summer..fly early...fly often. Thanks ..Ray
