  1. Quote: tsuttles Hello all, I am starting my IFR training in my M20C. Does anyone have a checklist they use that they like and that works for departures and approach procedures (Speeds etc when to do what on approach) just want something that works without reinventing the wheel.... Note M20C ) If you have something like that I would love to get a copy from a Mooney owner versus spending money on a generic checklist that doesn't work for us mooney guys... tsuttles@nc.rr.com
  2. Quote: Antares Well, I had to go around for the first time in my plane today. I've put around 50 hours on the tach since I took delivery at the beginning of June. I posted a video of the incident on YouTube and hopefully y'all can provide me with some feedback. I'm thinking that I may have been better off in this scenario going in with less than full flaps. Link to video: The description in the video:
  3. Quote: PilotDerek G, Look at your log in name. You've been bugged. You posted three times under my profile. None of the above posts are from me.
  4. Wow, I cant think of any reason not to get this as a backup! Anyone have another opinion? I was going to install a backup in my panel... I don't like having only one AI...
  5. We wondered why the airport closed as we were put into holding around one of the lakes...
  6. I have a '96 Ovation. I've started to notice that on occasion my rpm gague jumps. The rpm is not actually surging, the prop control works fine, nothing changes when i see these jumps, and the jumps are too fast to be as near as I can tell anything other than a spurious indication. Any thoughts? It jumps higher never lower. For instance, if I'm cruising at 2400, it will start to twitch higher, to 2500 and back, to 2600 or 2700 and back. It never jumps lower than the set rpm. Then it will go away. My suspicion is 1) this will get worse over time, and 2) that it is the gague. I have one more flight to get it home to where it can be looked at. So, how does the RPM gague work? Anything bad that could be happening that I should really get concerned about? (yes, it will be looked at soon, but wanted this group's input) thanks! Greg
  7. My secret has been to arrive Sat afternoon; you get better position on the north 40 for camping by coming early, and traffic has in my experience been lighter...
  8. Quote: gsengle I come from MA every year, and will be there again with the Ovation, but I don't think I would have made it there successfully once round trip in the last 4 years VFR. g
  9. Quote: rbridges I'd like to go but I can't chance it since I'm VFR only. If anyone near the central GA area wants to split expenses, I'd love to tag along.
  10. On another note, I'm annoyed at ForeFlight (and considering switching to WingX) because they don't support Skyradar, which is evidently using a standard data format! Anyone else wanna help me to continue to pressure them? Bet they are getting a kick-back for the exclusive....
  11. Quote: jetdriven Should have written "doesnt look like it has a good antenna.". From my experience with the Skyradar ADS-B, the signal is not very strong. Once you get away from the Houston or Dallas area, the weather has trouble updating due to shadowing by the airframe. Turning 90 degrees or banking 45 degrees can make it fill in. Out by McAllen we would go 20 minutes before recieving the next station. This is with the Skyradar on the glareshield or on the side window. This seems like it might be an issue with the Stratus as well. The ANN video shows one in a 172 and the Stratus is propped up against the windshield. Stratus also offers a remote antenna. I just have a hard time beileving an internal antenna recieving the 978 MhZ band sitting on the glareshield flat can do a good job. There is too much obstruction in a Mooney. How do you recieve a station behind the aircraft? shadowed by the wing? It seems a belly mount antenna is the only true solution. Again, this is from observation by a competing product but in a Mooney.
  12. Quote: flyboy0681 You echoed every one of my points. The only thing that I don't agree with is the TFR. They were created after 9/11 and the country did just fine without them for decades.
  13. I wish there were more events in New England
  14. Quote: carusoam Mike, Theoretically speaking, Expect one or two knots by improving balance. Adding a few pounds in the right place (within the legal envelope) will keep your trim from hanging out in the wind. A tool box in the baggage compartment to minimize up-trim during solo flights comes to mind. Always calculate your W&B accurately before this type of experiment. Don't rush or exceed any limits..... Changing the balance alters the aircraft's resistance to stalls. Best regards, -a-
  15. Quote: Jeff_S The only other thing I add is to mention that they will occasionally hear beeping sounds from different alarms, such as going off A/P, gear up alarm if I pull back power on decent, etc. I tell them that none of these alarms means the plane is going to crash so don't worry. Then I add with a wink "you'll KNOW when we're about to crash!" (Just kidding, I don't really say that.)
  16. Quote: FlyDave Butch, Here's mine: 1. Door - DON’T SLAM 2. Door - Lock/Unlock procedures 3. Cell Phones - Off 4. Seatbelts – On at all times 5. Don’t touch anything 6. Let me know if you’re uncomfortable 7. Women – Earrings under headsets uncomfortable 8. Trim Wheel – Keep Clear 9. Emergency Gear Handle – Keep Clear 10. Stop talking if my hand goes up 11. Emergency Landing – Open door when I say – STILL IN FLIGHT Notes: #1 - they still slam the door #7 - thanks to my wife for this one Should probably add one about "No Flash when taking a picture". I had someone do that a month ago and it wrecked my night vision for 10-15 seconds. I'm interested in what other people use for this check list.
  17. Quote: summitdawg Thanks for your input.....I'll reconsider the idea of getting into a Mooney. It's obviously not for someone with my judgement or attitude.
  18. Bit crazy but... over the last week - KFRG (NY) - I19 (us airforce museum, Dayton) - KRAP (mount rushmore, etc) - KBFI (Boeing Field, Seattle) - KRAP - KALN (St Louis) - 7B2 (home base in MA) Lots of legs pushing 1000nm, Mooneys are amazing. g
  19. Quote: jdrake Here are a few that I've used when traveling between Trenton and Naples. Each are friendly with reasonable fuel, courtesy cars and are convenient to V1. I generally choose based on my personal endurance for the trip. KEYF - Elizabethtown, NC (Brown Field) - closest KGGE - Georgetown, SC (Near Charleston) KSSI - Brunswick, GA (on the FL border). Stop here for fuel, then fly the 5 miles to Jekyll Island (no fuel) for lunch
  20. Quote: carusoam My favorite site is All American Aircraft.com. It's like a dealer. They always have the most popular Mooneys available on the market. It is a great place to research the topic. If you have the good fortune to travel to San Antonio, it will be worth the visit, no purchase required.... http://www.controller.com/list/list.aspx?pcid=17527&etid=1&dlr=1&setype=1 I have no financial interest here, wish I did.... Best regards, -a-
