  1. Solved! Thanks JoeSpeed. Due to its position it makes sense then that it is a few degrees hotter. It's getting 3 cylinders contributing to temp.
  2. Good point! Flew today same result, higher EGT on map mode. I spoke to a hangar neighbor IA with a IO520 Beech. He showed me a 7th probe on the right side cylinder 5-3-1 in the manifold in the fork in the road of the three exhaust. On his it could have been a TIT but not being turbo is just another EGT. His was disconnected. I am going to pull the cowling to see if there is in fact an extra temp probe for the summary map mode. This is an important reading in that it is used to zero in on EGT during climb and decent. Garmin or Mooney should document this if true. Russ
  3. Well Dan I guess I had better check my voltage meter now to see if that is off too. Anthony, thanks a 7th probe would certainly make sense. I will investigate that possibility. Yes, I know that I may be in line for a visit from the pixie fairy at some point but EGTs on #5 generally stays under 350. On these pics I am running 120 ROP. Russ
  4. Something weird here. On my G1000 engine strip while in map display mode you get some of the summaries of your engine indicators. The EGT displays the hottest cylinder. When changing the MFD to engine mode you get the drill down details such as all cylinder temps. On my Map mode engine strip the EGT is displaying 88 degrees hotter then the Engine display mode. Has anyone ever seen this? Its one probe, how can it show two different values? See 1500 EGT Map view vs 1413 EGT Engine view.
  5. Can anyone educate me on the TAS options we might have with these older G1000s? I would like to add TAS. Not sure if Garmin is even an option. Russ
  6. I have mentioned on this board before but Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Extend-a-Clean works wonders. I read about it a couple of years ago on Beech Talk. I have tried a lot and this seems to be the best. Russ
  7. I have had limited communications with the factory about it. I know there are new GIA 63s and antennas involved but in the STEC case for VNAV we will need a new MFD since that is where the GFC 700 controls are and then I am thinking perhaps new AP servos. The $35K price is for WAAS/vertical NAV so I am hoping that includes the MFD and AP conversion. I saw a 2005 O2 on Controller with the conversion from STEC to GFC700 but I dont know of anyone on Mooneyspace that has done STEC to GFC conversion. Adding the Avidyne DFC90 in the STEC hole would be really nice. Russ
  8. I knowingly purchased an O 2GX this summer without WAAS and felt my deal was priced appropriately. Doug "showmethemooney" on this board is well versed in the upgrade having done it this summer at Arapohoe. From what I can ascertain Mooney, Beech, Cessna have lots of G1000/STEC combos not WAAS certified so the number is probably much higher. The choosen platform for certification at the time was to use the Garmin GFC700 with G1000 but that combo did not certify/ship till 2007/08. G1000 was out in the market so lots of planes were built with STEC 55X which never received certification. The factory will sell you a non VNAV WAAS upgrade for ~$28K and the VNAV WAAS for ~$35K. Not sure if this has ADSB in and out capability. You also have to pay an avionics shop to install after getting the equipment from Garmin. This is a high price but I am sure Garmin/Mooney development royalties are amortized into this. I am hoping for new attention to this with the new factory backing. This is what I believe so anyone please add or correct me if you have better info. Russ
  9. Brett, very nice. How are you connected to get audio?
  10. My search in the forums did not yield much for this subject. I have a Reiff preheat setup that requires an extension cord to plug in. The base hangar is all set up but I am wonder about what to do at destination airports when parked outside overnight. I travel with overnighters and will want to preheat the engine prior to starting sometime in the near future. I can carry a long extension cord and look for a 110 outlet but I am wondering if there are any portable power supplies that can output the required voltage for a few hours and that doesn't weigh a too much. Thanks, Russ
  11. I don't want to turn this into anything political, but given the industry, state of affairs in D.C., and our aging fleet it is nice to know someone with some financial firepower can fire this fleet up. Composite Acclaim anyone? Please Mr. Chinese business man, can you give me WAAS for my old decrepit G1000?
  12. San Marcos would be good. There will be a Vintage Mooney Group - South Central gathering on Octobter 5. http://www.vintagemooneygroup.com/VMGSouthCentral/index.htm

  14. If you use Foreflight on your iPad why not create one in Excel, format it to 8x5, save as a PDF an put it in your documents section.
  15. Don't forget the cold O2 option- as in air conditioning. Very nice, especially in the south. Also, check out Premier at flypas.com .
  16. From what I have read the FAA now has a simple website email request. http://www.nbaa.org/ops/security/barr/new-process/
  17. I am considering blocking my tail number. You can permit certain individuals, family, etc to still track you through Flightaware however Flightaware wants $720 annually plus a $250 setup fee to limit views. I don't understand what they do within their data services to generate that kind of fee. Does anyone have their tail blocked and if so how do you allow certain people to track you? Maybe there is an iPhone app that will suffice.
  18. $35K for the waas/GFC kit from the factory. Then take it to a Garmin dealer for install. Just wondering if Garmin will have a touch screen upgrade for G1000s?
  19. I recently transitioned from the M20J to the M20R. Formula similar to PMcClure. Key to get approach speed set on final with proper pitch usually 13" gear and flaps. Adjustments are slight else you will vary too much. Change MP and give it a few seconds, same with pitch. 70 by flare and throttle all the way out. Not just pulling it but twisting it to the stops. Not twisting leaves enough prop to keep it floating. Bounce the nose gear just go around. Russ
  20. Brittany Glassman Parts Manager Premier Aircraft Sales and Service, Inc. Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport 5544 N.W. 23rd Avenue Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309 (954) 334-2393 Service Office They will make you some for about $850 U.S. Russ
  21. I am new to the WX and XM combo and see now how important it is. I did a similar path in the same neck of the woods last weekend and my navigation changes were due to WX strikes mostly. Russ
  22. I just completed a trade with Premier. From what I can tell they typically desire high demand, low maintenance trades. In other words I don't think they want to invest in fixing them up and having to inventory them for a while. They take care of all of the paperwork. They give you an offer on your trade towards the new aircraft. Premier is a top notch outfit and one that I will consider if and when I do another deal. They treat everyone very well, like royalty actually. Russ
  23. Ok payback... http://slothed.com/2013/07/23/korean-news-station-pokes-fun-at-ktvu-with-fake-american-pilot-names-after-southwest-airlines-landing-gear-failure/
  24. John, I will be in NOLA KNEW in a couple of weeks. Where is the WWII museum? Two nights so at least one night of drinking, partying, museums, and listening to good music. Becca, ever been to the Hard Rock in Biloxi? Fly into Gulfport. Looks like some good entertainers coming about that time. Russ
