  1. Here's one for you from the POH. Take off on one tank, ....tank switching , run for one hour, tank switching....., then switch back to the other tank , run it until empty. Disclaimer: Please be aware that doing this will cause lengthy discussions on Mooneyspace , and may result in frightened passengers.
  2. Quote: jetdriven I hav noticed these laminar flow wings on these Mooneys start sinking like a rock below 70 MPH or so on final, the slower you go, the faster it sinks.
  3. Quote: Shadrach squirrel, what were you trying to do that brought you up short? Were you practicing shot feild technique? spot landing? What happened and how???
  4. A kite can do amazing things in the hands of the gifted, so can a Mooney. Do you feel gifted? Was that spin five turns or six? Well? You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well do ya, punk? Loosely and shamelessly lifted from Dirty Harry. I was lucky , 70 feet short of the threshold is just under one second in time at 65 MPH, if I had not been aligned with the centerline it could have been ugly! Less than one second miscalculation, otherwise it was a good landing! Do be careful! Stick with the Gatoraid pee bottle guzzle trick or the old , I'm having chest pain , you're going to have to land it!
  5. Is it OK to take the oil I drain from my aircooled aircraft engines, regardless of the weight and brand , then use it in my Snapper lawn mower? It is air cooled. I haven't had any problems.
  6. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story! I WENT FLYING TODAY AND NOTHING HAPPENED , just isn't interesting!
  7. Did you take the gasket off the filter and lubricate both sides of it. That might work.
  8. Do you want internal or external ?
  9. Thanks for the picture. When I bought my Mooney about one year ago I posted a picture like this at my desk at work . I was a real fixed gear Cessna pilot for years and knew that this would be my undoing. Every time I looked at the picture I forced myself to say , "The landing gear is down and locked, the light is green." or else.
  10. http://forums.aopa.org/showthread.php?t=78781 Heated discussion about flaps on roll out, I have manual flaps and manual gear. I could I make the same mistake as well.
  11. At least the gear switch is in the right position, when the landing stopped. I feel for you and could have been telling a similar tale of woe from a landing I made short of the threshold just Saturday. Living and flying , cheating death ,yet once again! You are still among the luckiest people on Earth, even with a bent Mooney! All the perfect landings you will make from now on will never be more memorable than this one. As time marches into the future the same mind , the one with the brain fart, will paint this entirely differently. Were there any witnesses? If so I know a guy that knows a guy.......... disclaimer: It's been said , "there are those who have , and those who will", but I know my Mooney has bagged its limit of two. I'm sure you will recover ,
  12. You could turn on the landing light, then have someone try to start it if the light goes dim ,it's probably the battery. I'm guessing that there is only one battery in this model.
  13. Check the temperature of the battery after running the engine, if the battery is hot it is shorting internally and not charging the full plate . It can show voltage but sulfation can reduce each cells ampacity.
  14. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Halon-1211-1301-Fire-Extinguisher-Aircraft-PC-Computer-Electronics-Airplane-RV-/120837134712?pt=BI_Security_Fire_Protection&hash=item1c22745978 I bought mine on Ebay for $65, 2.5 Lbs halon.
  15. The 6th cylinder had no compression ,just took it off and capped the hole. That's probably why I landed short.
  16. My Mooney is out of shop for annual inspection Friday, flew it yesterday. Suprisingly enough , the 50 year old Ebay purchase had no outstanding ADs, compression 72,72,72,76,74. I got a new baggage door hinge, replaced the nose tire, timed the mags, all for $990.57. I will admit that I'm adding my name to the very distinguished list of Mooney pilots that have somehow managed to land short of the threshold by 70 feet! The only excuse I have to offer is that another pilot was with me to witness this! Too bad it didn't happen today then I could blame it on "Dang. haven't flown since last year". I walked out to the end of the runway to teach myself a lesson , measured everything , no threat to life or limb , but lesson hammered home about doing everything as right as possible. One mistake , could have been expensive, mitigated by being lined up on the center line! Missed the threshold lights. I must be the luckiest SOB on the planet! Have a Happy , Healthy, Holiday! Disclaimer: SOB = Squirrel on Board
  17. I think it does when the title is TSA and a description of their methods being implemented at our GA airports. I concede that I will no longer feel Free to post here. It's been fun, so long ! Becca it's all yours now!
  18. How about from now on we just call them Brownshirts. That is the pre WWII stage I'm reminded of here and now. I think in retrospect that Europes problem was ignoring the 800 Lb. gorilla in the room.
  19. Quote: kerry If all options failed with trying to get into the airport. I'd jump the fence. I would think if law enforcement showed up and I explained that that's my plane and all my other options failed trying to get in. I think they would understand I got out of my plane and went out the gate and it locked me out. If I was locked out of my house or car and I used methods of getting back into my property I'd think law enforcement would understand after checking my story out.
  20. Quote: RJBrown Every thing is becoming a "privilege" Not a right. This phrase as used by you underscores the way we are controlled. The constitution only gave limited authority to the federal government all other "rights" were retained to the citizens. This phrase explains in a nut shell how reversed the thinking about rights has become. The courts that have twisted our "rights" into "privileges"
  21. Could have been pinched in the wheel.
  22. I agree. That's what happens to mine when the air goes out.
  23. Hi Kurt, I hope you liked the vintage sales literature. I am going to make a copy of my manual and will be glad to send it to you. It's 33 pages on 8.5x11. Just resend me a mailing address. Sleepingsquirrel
  24. I mean really LOP, mine goes stone cold when I pull hard on the red knob!
  25. If you fly LOP that temperature is bound to go down!
