  1. Guys, I bought updates from this gentleman and I can tell you that he is a very honest and reliable person. Thanks again Don!
  2. Here's my take on it! I leave Lachute airport, north of Montréal, at noon for a flight to Val d'Or. Flight time, usually in a normal northwesterly wind condition, 1h45m. My imaginary friend, who would drop me off at the airport and continue with the bikes , would arrive, if everything goes without a problem, about 5 hours later... Another example of this is, if I leave Lachute at 7am, on a typical weekday, for a 20min flight to St-Jean, south of Montréal, my imaginary friend would be caught in traffic for, in the best case scenario, 90 minutes before reaching destination and would have to endure the same delays after our business meeting as he returns during the PM rush hour... But I have learned not to idealize the Mooney ownership, sometimes it's all about sheer pleasure and that Mooney grin once at destination!
  3. Félicitations, Olivier, E c'est pour EXCELLENT! That's why they called it the Super 21!
  4. I don't know if that answers your question, but here is a brochure from Whelen that specifies for which part number their Par46 is an aproved PMA replacement. http://www.whelen.com/pb/Aviation/Product%20Sheets/Parmetheus_Series.pdf
  5. Sean, as far as landing lights go, Whelen's PAR 46 is FAA-PMA approved, I installed one myself last year and am very happy with it!
  6. Yep, sealed all around with sillicone, but water came in anyway!
  7. Still waiting to see if they are going to offer any warranty...
  8. Now for the downside... I installed Whelen LED belly strobe May 2012 and had it removed last month because all LED were burnt following water infiltration! I'm replacing it with an Aveo Baron XP, which is much brighter, we'll see how long it will last...
  9. Bizarre... Up here in Canada, a class 2 is for ATC only, so I have both a class 2 and 3...
  10. "you can get these at Spruce but skip the middle man." According to my experience, I would be very careful to "skip the middle man"... Orderd a set, for a total of $116 on May 1st. Credit card charged, site has been showing a message "Awaiting shippment" for the last month. After two emails and no reply, this one is going to a third party for resolution! Update from the company, May 28th Hello Pierre; Sorry that I did not see your message. I refunded your money today. My product was 4 weeks late from my manufacturer, due to product error. Regards, Chris Winter I always appreciate a good customer service policy.
  11. Deux hangars plus à l'ouest, tu verras mon Mooney qui couche dehors!
  12. Hey you're almost my neighbour! Maybe 25 min flying time, if not for the border crossing procedures... Used to be a Northeastern chapter of the Vintage Mooneys, does that still exist?
  13. Un autre ident qui me dit de quoi! Moi c'est CGJDP basé à Lachute, CSE4.
  14. Hey Mooney 1401, your Mooney's ident rings a bell, but probably from one of your flight into Montréal's TCU. Ottawa TCU and Québec TCU, better known as "Les Capitales", are also located in the same building, but I don't work those airspace! But next time I hear your call sign, I'll say Hi! Pierre
  15. I own a Minimax electric tug, powered by a DeWalt drill. Very good performer on my uphill tie-down when there is no or minimal snow or ice. Price is good, paid around $700 for it, http://www.minimaxtugs.com/Mooney_Tug_p/010mooney.htm
  16. I I bought Bogert's tow bar, about a year ago, and it is very well built and solid. These days, $94.50 at Spruce! http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/bogibars2.php
  17. Air traffic controller: Montréal Terminal
  18. Had some starting problems with my Mooney 2 years ago and I went with the Skytec starter and I am very satisfied with it. With a good battery, you can expect to start wthin a couple of blades all the time, even when it's cold outside. Just don't use the light version (149-12LS) stick with the recommend part (149NL).
  19. Yeah, finally bought it last November. The intent was to help me during the winter season so I wouldn't end up on my behind while trying to pull the Mooney up a slope from its tiedown using the original tow bar. While it works great during dry operation, I wouldn't recommend it for snowy or icy conditions, as it is most of the times innefective... So, final note, for a Canadian operator, about 70%, the plus side is that I can always use the Dewalt drill for something else when I don't use the tug... UPDATE: So everyone understands, the problem is more with the icy surface than the tug. I now use cleets for the initial *climb* then I rely on the tug for the rest of the pull. The manufacturer also has a special roller for more grip on the tire for those icy conditions, but in my case, wouldn't help because the problem is the icy surface. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.minimaxtugs.com/product_p/035driveroller.htm
  20. Had my Concorde for 2 years now and it's still going strong. Parked outside all winter, never used a charger and never had any problem starting even in below zero wheather around Montréal, QC. BTW, I also made the change to a PlanePower alternator and a Skytec starter, a good move!
  21. Quote: Parker_Woodruff but you need to make sure you're hiring someone who is competent in Mooneys (and meets your insurance requirements as either a Named Pilot or falls under the Open Pilot Warranty).
  22. Quote: JimR If you order a new carpet set from Airtex, a carpeted nose wheel well cover is included. At least it was a few years ago. If you like the carpeted look, perhaps you could just order a new one from them? Jim
  23. Hi guys, I really need to do something about my wheel well cover. Right now, it has a "potato pouch" like canvas covering the whole thing, and I would like to know if there is a plastic or carpet that can cover it up. Any suggestions ? Here's a photo of the ugly thing...
  24. Thanks for all the advices! I did practice 90kts and that part is not too bad. As for pattern altitudes, if I understand it correctly, for Rwy 27, they expect us to descend from 1800' to 1300' mid-downwind? So base leg will be at or below 500AGL? And 18R you keep 1500' til across 27? Spending my free time reading the Notam, watching the videos and learning the landmarks, shouldn't be that bad... See you there!
  25. First time with the Mooney in Oskosh this year, and I was wondering if there were quieter periods to come in, like time of the day or the week? Flying at 90kts will be a challenge and I want to make sure I do a good job! Any advice?
