  1. Try taping over the static ports when you wash the plane.
  2. I replaced my dics after 20 years. I didn't find any real problems, they finally failed the Mooney spec.measurement.
  3. Added Power Flow Exhaust system. This has added 3 to 4 knots at 7000 using full manifold pressure and 2400 RPM.
  4. I had a problem with flap CB popping. The limit switches for the 15 degree stop were miss adjusted. A slight reallignment fixed the problem.
  5. My 93 M20J was doing the exact same thing. Same result by pulling both circuit breakers. Found that the vane was slightly out of position and sticking partially in the upward position. Pulled on it a little and that straighten it out enough to solve the problem. I remember my AP hit it doing the last annual, but didn't want to try to change it until I flew it. It was bent down enough to stick. Now I just have to see if it comes on at the correct stall speed.
  6. I replaced mine in less than 5 min. Just buy a new one about $45, pry out the old one and silicone in a new one. There is no direct connection to the fuel tank, it's a magnetic pick-up.
  7. The mag will fail quickly if the capacitor is not well grounded. Make sure the threads are clean and the capacitor is in tight.
  8. I had an intermittant problem with my 201. Always went down fast but was sometimes slow to retract. Worked on the up limit switch when the plane was sitting on the ground. Used the wooded handle of a hammer to push on it (takes quite a bit of force) about 50 times. Problem went away. It seems like the switch was not showing the gear was fully up but I didn't get any red light. I guess there was a little corusion in there. The switch is very closed, so there is probably no way to spray it.
  9. Practice shotfield landings and takeoffs. Don't takeoff in high temps with a heavy load. Make sure you can hold your speed to about 70 knots with full flaps when landing.
  10. Practice shotfield landings and takeoffs. Don't takeoff in high temps with a heavy load. Make sure you can hold your speed to about 70 knots with full flaps when landing.
  11. Lack of lubrication or failure of the drain tube usually creats this problem. You can try to lube the gears but often the electric motor dies. Time to send the unit back to Precise Flight for a rebuild.
  12. Check the fuel spider. Debris can cause intermittant problems.
  13. I have one in my J model. It works fine and does not creat a visibility problem if positioned on the co-pilots side. Must be at least 6 inches from center post, or it will not work. Try to get it as level as possible in flight mode for best result (requires shimming). I have it hooked to 496 for viewing.
  14. Fixed the problem with the alternator field CB popping on shutdown. Added a Zener Diode from the hot side of alternator field to ground. Colored band on the diode must face the positive side of the alternator field.
  15. My alternator field CB usually pops when I shut down the alternator field master. If I delay turning off the master switches for about a minute, the CB usually doesn't pop. The CB was changed by the previous owner who had the same problem.
  16. When I shut down my 93 201 the alternator field cb usually pops. If I delay the turning off the Alternator Field Master for about a minute it usually doesn't pop. CB has been changed, but it didn't help.
  17. Try Laser Mooney
  18. I had this happen to my 93 201. It turned out to be loose bolts on the engine case at the top. Tighten the bolts and the leak stopped.
  19. My 93 M20J needs a new rocker switch for the Taxi Lights. It is a split switch for left or right light. I have tried Laser Mooney and they said they were unavailable from Mooney. I would settle for a single switch or a good used switch but have been unable to find anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated
  20. I had that happed to my 93 with an electrical tach generator. Finally the cable broke. I replaced it with a new cable. That lasted less than 1 year and it too broke. I got a new cable from Mooney and that was manufactured incorrectly. Mooney said it would take months before the vendor could replace the defective cables. They suggested I try attaching the tach generator directly to the engine where the cable used to go. It was a very tight fit, but I got it to work. It's been 2 years and the tach has worked great.
